Who should Liverpool sign in January?

Premier League Liverpool

Liverpool are putting together a serious challenge to bring the title back to Anfield for the first time since 1990.

The transfer window is about to open - so what will manager Rafael Benitez do to try and ensure another championship campaign does not fade away into disappointment?

What areas does he need to strengthen and who should he go for? Are their any players he could trade in an attempt to improve his squad?

Well, liverpool 089 , if u think we could buy messi den u came to the rong article , dis is not man city we r not dat rich. IF we sell dossena coz we got enough lb nw like insua and aurelio, sell pennant, we can probly buy 1 player wich is good, but not like messi, you'll need like 50mil to do dat, or more, if we do sell, what we really need is axel witsel, or jakub from dormund, axel witsel: fast young RM (wt we need), jakub: LB LM RB RM can play in many position, young fast stroong, dese guys r under 13mil so if we do sell why not buy??! headhurts

it be excellent if LFC signed Tevez. can score goals, quick, links up play excellent. and a proven goal scoring in the prem. fallen out of favour with fergie! and tevez wants to move on with his footie career. sign him on loan for the rest of the season.

also swap Pennant for lennon. limted to first team chances at spurs. if signed for LFC he would play every game for LFC on the right flank.
Torres and babel up front with keane playin behind!

first line up
........................Reina

………………….Skrtel….Carra….Insua

..........…….... Alonso…..Masch

.........Lennon......... Gerrard.........Riera

...............Keano…............Torres

2nd line up
........................Reina

………………….Skrtel….Carra….Insua

.........................Masch

......... Gerrard......... Alonso.........Riera

.........................Tevez

...............Keano…............Torres

I think we should get rid of keano, benayoun and pennant and find replacements as well as a new left back. Arbeloa's doing fine where he is I reckon.
Possible swap would be keano for tevez, but if we get some cash to spend, we should look at luis fabiano and david villa to partner torres. Ashley young, Gourcuff or lennon to replace pennant or benayoun and left back in the form of gareth bale or marcelo from madrid for some young blood.

Why do people keep coming up with replace Arbeloa now and again? Are you watching the same Liverpool the rest of us are watching?

He's been solid this season, he was fairly average against Chelsea but he's been a conistent peformer for us this season when he's played.

Left back is an issue for me though. Aurellio is 'decent' but he's more a squad player for me as he can fit in at left back or left midfield. Dossena played quite well against Everton in the cup but he's still not good enough and we need to sell him as soon as we can, he just hasn't adapted (Degen also).

Insua has been good and hopefully he will continue his form and that should save us the money and worries of finding another LB. He was good in the short period he played 1st team but his form will soon show as im pretty sure once he's back from playing for Argentina he will be in the starting line up.

The team is strong as it is, hence it's current posistion but next season we will hopefully have new owners (please please please) and will invest in a foward-thinking right midfielder and a target man who stays in the box.

The match against Chelsea proved we need a goal poacher as many times when we had a ball wide no one was taking a gamble in the box. They all just pulled back or square across the 18 yard box.

Pennant, Dosenna, Degen definately need to be sold. Cut the wage bill and bring in another player with the money raised.

So. No-one in at all. No wingers. No 2nd striker, just one less than we had before. No Gourcuff or Villa...

But hey biggrin, We got 12m squid!

We can sellotape it to the crossbar & hope it'll stop the ball going in-off.

We can stuff it in the players socks to thicken out their shinpads.

Or we can put it in the "bank" & watch its value dwindle aginst the Euro et al...

Any other suggestions, considering the transfer door is now bolted shut (and don't go watery-eyed about ticket prices! Come on now!)?

May not be a bad thing in some ways, because it limits the endless squad rotation that Rafa is so fond of. Will Kuyt now be trusted as a permanent second striker, rather than a utility player? Will Riera finally start every match on the right? Now we will see...

Rafa should have brought in a couple of proven and experienced players, i.e. a backup to Torres. If he gets injured again this season, I fear it is season over, as Babel and N'gog just aren't good enough to handle the pressure of needing to score. Kuyt could handle it, but he has positioned himself on the right now.

Stevie G to the rescue...again. smiley

I don't really understand Oliver's comments??

Riera is a left footed, left winger so I don't understand the logic in playing him on the right. I'm not the biggest advocate of Kuyt in general, but I'm strongly opposed to Kuyt playing upfront. He'll do a job on the right due to his healthy workrate, but he doesn't have enough ability to play upfront.

I think it's make or break for Babel now. He's going to get a lot of opportunities upfront and it's upto him to take them...
