European Football

comment on the article

Morning all. It is European draw day and I, for one, am very excited.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Tottenham will all discover their Champions League or Uefa Cup fate when the draws are made in Switzerland.

I'll be taking you through the action from around 1030 GMT and I'll need all your chat. So get involved with your hopes/fears/predictions and I'll use as many contributions as I can. Nice.

Who the hell is Maicon? I've never heard that name

-------------------------

For both of you ignorant people :P

Dani Alves is the Barcelona right back, as I'm sure you know. Cost 30 million pounds (or thereabouts) over the summer from Sevilla, generally considered to be absolutely brilliant in attack and defence.

Maicon is the right back that means Dani Alves doesn't have anywhere near as many caps as he does. He's barely played for Brazil - because Maicon is a notch better than him.

Look up some maicon videos, he's absolutely brilliant. Offers of 30m+ pounds (rumoured, at least) from Chelsea, Real, and perhaps Barca have all been turned down by inter on him in the last couple of years, (seeing as how we dont need the money, and we DO need the player).

He took arguably the most consistent player in his position ever, e.g. Javier Zanetti, and made him change to be a midfielder because Maicon is so good.

How do you like them apples?

Reading through couldnt believe how many people had'nt heard of Maicon and then they say that MU will go through easy, which I think they will and want them to. I do think Inter will pose a threat but I can't see them winning it. I don't think that they have the ability to get through Vidic and Rio, unless they notice our big flaw in the RB department then were screwed but I cant see Mouriniho employing wingers so were safe there.

anyone else think that the draw is good and bad. You could have some more lesser but still good teams in the last 8. Where you could have some of the top names like inter or man utd knocked out. Actually that makes it more entertaining.

It's an interesting draw, can't say I'm thrilled with Inter - hardest we could have got in my opinion. Still think we'll have enough to get through it but should be two cracking games.

Liverpool should be fine - I can't see Diarra turning Madrid into a solid defensive unit. They will always score goals however so it may depend on how tight Liverpool can keep it and on Casillas.

Chelsea and Arsenal both have tough games, wouldn't be surprised to see at least one of them go out
