just seen the home grown player quota has been approved and comes into force next season, basically you must have at least 4 in the 16 man matchday squad who have been registered as players in england for 3 years before there 21, they can be foreign,

personally i think its a very good idea, anyone else agree?
do we think it'll affect rangers and if so how?

i would rather see it limited to English players... i think we will still see youth teams being flooded with teenage foreigners. perhaps more so now as teams try to qualify them early as "home grown"

nevertheless a step in the right direction.

I complete disagree with this rule. Fair enough it gives young players the chance to step up to the plate, but it also gives them a false sense. What if they are not good enough for the 1st team? lets say the manager only chooses them because of their age? I wish the both the whole UK football system was rebuffed

Some people seem to think Arsenal will be in trouble if this becomes implemented in the Premier League. This isn't true, not only because we get foreign players in at a very young age, but we also develop British players as well. Ramsey and Wilshere, 17 and 16 years of age respectively, have had opportunities in the Champions League this season.

The previous generation of Arsenal youth players like Upson, Pennant, Sidwell, etc couldn't get in ahead of world class players at the time, so we let them go, and they have all gone on to play for good Premiership clubs. Therefore, even when young players don't make it here, the education we give them mean they are able to make a good career.

The current crop of youngsters do include British players who can make it, so people should stop with the myth that we only have foreign young talent and never develop British players.

no quota i dont want to pay to see a bunch of english boys. i want to see world class players from all races colors.
=========================
how many world class players are there in the premiership?

none outside the top four clubs, its average foreign players taking £40k a week out of our crippled economy that needs to be clamped down on.

jeremie aliadiere, steven pienaar, julien faubert, mario melchiot to name but five, all make a mint off the back of fans who are increasingly having to make sacrifices to pay for their season tickets steam

if we can't produce players as good as them at half the cost clubs are going to go to the wall, FACT,

i also suspect you are a white english boy rastamanvibe,

you is vexed innit?

laugh

This doesn't make any sense. Can anyone think of a team Premiership or otherwise that doesn't already comply? Or am I missing something

It might be good for Villa if this rule came in in the Premiership. It wouldn't be much disruption as my count we had 9 English players in the starting 11 against Arsenal who on the other hand had no English players at all.

I don't think it'd be very good for Villa, I think they're exactly the sort of team who'd be stung in the arse by the quota system.

Imagine it came into force today - tomorrow morning Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal would all be kicking the door in trying to poach your best players for massive fees.

You could kiss goodbye to Agbonlahor, Young, Barry and Milner for starters. At a pinch you might be able to keep hold of Steve Sidwell.

OK, so with the money you'd earn you could plough millions back into developing more young players, but again they'd be spirited away to the bigger clubs as soon as they showed any promise.

We don't live in an idylic world where young players will stick by their boyhood club through thick and thin, no matter who else might be interested in their services - you can ask Rooney or Ashley Cole about that. In the last 15 years, the only players I can think of who turned down the dollar sign and the chance to play at a higher level have been Shearer and Le Tissier.

My clubs not affected by this rule or the proposed 6+5 rule Blatter wants to impose on football but i still disagree with this rule completely.

English players would become commodities and big clubs would pay loads to sign them. It wouldnt improve the national team anyway since we have already produced with the ability of winning trophies and our national team would be effected just as much as the other national teams. Would the premier league still be dubbed "the best league in the world" if we continued down this quota road? I think not...

For the numpty who was wining about players they think are over paid - they are paid what the market stipulates - demand and supply. Just another excuse for people to rant about the credit crunch! If your boss told you he was docking your pay so the effects of the credit crunch could be reduced im sure you would be up in arms.
