Mayweather approaches Hatton for Rematch

Just seen on Setanta News (breaking news scroll at the bottom of the screen) that Hattons Team have confirmed they have been contacted by Mayweather Junior for a rematch. No other details than that.

Have to say I'm not surprised he is coming out of retirement but surprised by his choice of opponent considering what happened in their fight last year. Pacman you would think would be the logical opponent and you would have thought it would generate a lot more money.

What is everyone's thoughts?

"This is what I meant by rewriting history... ...Cotto showed no desire to fight Floyd."

Ironic or what!!

"So do you think Floyd has hand picked all his opponents? Do you think he was a certainty against Castillo, Gatti, De La Hoya, Corrales?"

"C+ fighter" Gatti, certainly... ...as did pretty much everybody else... ...and the DLH fight was, umm, a close one...

"Have a look at his fights at LWW. Corrales, Castillo and Gatti were all top names in that division. I don't think Mayweathers been ducking anyone, except possibly Cotto"

Mmm... ...let me see. Gatti was reckoned to be the weakest of the main belt holders at 140. Corrales and Castillo were, how can I put it, lightweights (at least when they fought FMJ). And the Castillo fight was, shall we say, "close"?

"[Floyd's] blatantly cherry-picked at 147" - not just 147 in my view. 140 as well... Lightweight was the only division he really "cleaned up"

I think there are enough reasons to justify a rematch.

The Money - might as well start with the obvious one. Hatton is the most marketable man out there because of his popularity; the fact it's a rematch just adds extra sizzle.

The Ref - Varied opinions on the ref's performance, one I know Conn-man won't agree with, but Joe Cortez's performance was poor. Constantly breaking the fighters when it was not needed and not warning Mayweather for constantly turning his back, then docking Hatton a point for hitting him in the back. Couple that with the fact that he did the exact opposite for B-Hop in his bout with Calzaghe and there is some serious doubts over the fairness of the first fight.

Floyd Mayweather Snr - If Hatton offers the right money he will train Hatton for this fight, of that there should be no doubt. Adds a whole new twist the the fight with all the family connections.

Legacy - That it could be one of the biggest events ever to go down in boxing, something to rival "The Rumble in the Jungle". This would see both fighters go down in history whatever the outcome of the fight. Though I very much doubt either will be forgotten in a hurry anyway.

=========================

Pretty good point made. I have to agree that the ref Joe Cortez was indeed in favour of Mayweather which is typical of america, hence the reason why Calzaghe prefers to throw nearly 800 per contest. Aggressivity counts for everything according to the judges and although I didn't see the FMJ/Hatton fight, I can only assume that Hatton was clearly the one who was being aggressive. In fact, after watching some footage on youtube, you can clearly see Hatton complaining to the ref because FMJ was turning his back. When boxers turn their back, its a clear sign that they do respect the punching power of their opponent and are clearly afraid of being caught. Nothing personal, but FMJ is the total opposite of what a boxer should be. He clearly wins by turning his back, running away, getting into clinches, and gets a few lucky punches in to get the points.

As I stated, ODLH wasn't in his prime when he fought FMJ 16 months ago, but he still took FMJ to a split decision which was dubious to say the least. When I watch FMJ, I am in fact watching a Bernard Hopkins type fighter who prefer to cling on for dear life rather than take the chances.

If FMJ wants to get respect from me, then he either fights Hatton at Hattons natural weight(which he will not do) or fight against margarito or Cotto who will punch continously for 12 rounds. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best, and as far as I am concerned, I believe that there are a couple of challenges left for Mayweather.

When FMJ beat Hatton, it was like Amir Khan before he got KO'd. He fought a couple of boxers who were smaller than he was so it was easier for him to win. Fighting someone who is naturally smaller and winning doesn't make for a great fighter.

FMJ wants this fight for one reason and one reason only. MONEY MAYWEATHER!!!!

He knows he'll beat Ricky plus get a phat pay day from all Hattons yob fans which follow him everywhere. Floyd would probably even go wembly. His other incentive is he wanted to gatecrash the pacman negotiations because he hates Arun (pacs promoter)!!!

Yet another person who knows nothing about boxing.

They released the judges scorecards and Hatton was beating Mayweather on points.

But why let the facts get in the way?

**************************************************

Hatton was 10 points down on 1 card and 8 down on the other two.

But why let facts get in the way of a good story??

MUFC Greater than England:
"If FMJ wants to get respect from me,"

Hahahahahahahaha.

That must be why he's coming out of retirement... I'm sure you've been playing on his mind...

Mayweather Jr only wants to fight Hatton because he knows he has the measure of him!!!

Lets see what will happen if he dares take on the Pac Man!!!!

I believe the Pac Man will knock him all over the ring!! laugh

Maybe the Mayweather team are touting for a re-match with Hatton to hurry up negotiations with Pacman. He has to be the logical choice.

Mayweather is behaving like a conartist Calzaghe. Scared of Margarito and Pacquiao so he wants rematch with Hatton? Why does he want rematch anyway? Isnt the loser supposed to demand rematch?

Hahaha do you even know anything about boxing? Boxing isint about the person throwing the most punches, the most aggressive fighter etc... Its a sport mate there is skill involved, and PBF is just about the most skillful boxer on the planet, hes a defencive boxer with a defensive style, thats why he doesnt go in gung-ho.. all the Mayweather detracters out there can say what they want, Mayweather landed more punches than Hatton or De La Hoya in both fights therefore Mayweather won both contests. Boxing is about skill avoiding punches, and throwing counters, and landing more punches than your oponent, something which Mayweather excels at. Mayweather is a boxers boxer a real fighter. And considering you didnt watch the Hatton/Mayweather fight you shoudnt comment because of what you seen on you tube.. Mayweather dismantled Hatton with ease, and can do it any time any place.
