Australia on top @ WACA

International Tests Australia

350 runs on a first day WACA pitch is a very good score and the tail had contributed very well. I see a pattern in this to the test when India played Aus @ Perth and the tail made all the difference.

South Africa started with a bang but wasted their huge advantage. With australia you need to be on top all of the time ALWAYS. you provide them a tiny opening and they are all over you.

I would say that 350 is agood first innings score and this test may be a low socring game and australian fast bowlers will prove a handful for South African batsmen. As is always, if Australia make 350 they will make sure their opponents will be bowled out for say 250-280 and South Africa will have to bat last on this pitch.

Ponting and Hayden should gracefully retire, lest they'll enter the annals of ducks and low scores for a long long time to come

ICC's Haroon Longat has issued strict orders to ban Hayden and Ponting if they sledge or use verbally abusive language - this could spell the end of Ponting and Hayden's careers since both thrive on abusive verbal sledge on foreign players

their adrenalin flow will stop now that they cannot use unparlimentary sludge

Back to the thread title - well, yes they are now. Thanks to a great spell by Johnston.

What a stunning turnaround.

I quote from what I said yesterday - "Johnson is the danger man". And what a call! 7-42 says it all (4-5 in his last spell). He just gets better and better.

In aus it has always been wickets /runs.
It also used to be 8 ball overs but was changed to 6 ball overs because some of the new umpires could not count above six

Kreja is going to maintain his place in the team but as a batsman. The lead is 321 and both Johnson and Siddle can bat a bit so a lead of 350 is possible.
Saffers may have to break the record of 342 runs in the second innings to win a test at the WACA.
Great game and contest and the best seen in years

Congratulations to the Saffers on their great well deserved victory .
I was very disappointed and prayed for 150mm of rain to occur just after lunch.
I also wonder if this signals the end of the era when Australia dominated Test cricket as did the Windies in the 70'S.
I dont think Siddle or Kreja had a good test but Johnson and Haddin have secured their place in the side for many a year.
The return of Stuart Clark will be welcomed. After Dravid's 136 against England the retaining of Hayden seems like a good punt.

Only one can be the best and to be the best India will have to get the monkey off their backs;ie India cannot play well unless there are some monkeys around.India do not do well away from home
