We came from California 19 years ago, mesmerized by Seve Ballesteros- his magical golf and his dynamic personality. We followed him around 36 holes at Match Play, and 18 holes at Wentworth and other venues, including Belfy, Ryder Cups and Seve cups, each and every year. We had press credentials a couple of times, and tried to write a little about the sport. To watch Seve on the golf course is a total emotional experience - for me, and some of my english friends agree. It is not only his talent, his magical shots, his competitveness, but to know him a little, we also love his warm, sensitive, emotional personality, and his outgoingness and appreciation of his followers and audiences. God will watch over you, Seve.

Seve's chip between the bunkers at the 1976 Open at Royal Birkdale on the 18th hole of the final round announced him as a power to be reckoned with. The shot was simply audacious, most people around the green thought he messed-up but quickly realised that he'd meant to run the chip between a narrow strip of land between the two buckers guarding the green.Spontaneous applause and gasps of appreciation were greeted with a flash of Seve's famous smile. The ball finished a few feet from the cup. OK he finished runner-up to Johnny Miller but as Miller told him afterwards he was to become a wonderful Champion.Seve is one of my all time heroes and without him European Golf would still be in the doldrums. What has happened to him recently is absloutely tragic but Seve appears to have taken on the challenge with the same courage and fight as he has done many times on the golf course. Get better soon Seve we all want you want you to get back to your appreciating golfing public. You are as strong as a Spanish Bull. Ole!

Wentworth world matchplay 1981 - Seve v Greg Norman over 36 holes, Seve won 7 and 6 and blew Norman away - followed him the whole day round the course and it is still the finest exhibition of ball striking I have ever seen.

I've read his autobiography since the last time I read this thread. If you are a Seve fan or even just a golf fan I'd recommend this book. As someone who missed most of Seve's career, I'm 26, I thought it was a great insight to his persona and it contains some fantastic golfing stories.

my greatest memory was watching Lee Trevino and Seve playing a one club challenge round St Andrews and shooting one over par with only a 5 iron. Trevino two shots behind him.
all shots including putting were with a 5 iron and the way both turned the 5 iron into so many diffrent clubs and to think up how to play out deep bunkers with a 5 iron was wonderful to watch.

I know Seve's career very well and was too young to remember that match but I'd love to have seen it. I thought Seve was great in the 1991 world matchplay when he beat Nick Price in the final that year but it would have been great to see highlights of him beating Norman in 1981.

Seve will always be the greatest golfer europe has seen...his charsma makes Tiger look like the boring robot he appears to be.

God bless you Seve; that 3rd shot at the 18th hole of the 1988 Open was a shot of a true genius.

Nobody ever mentions this but my favourite Seve moment was in the 1985 Masters. He was playing with Bernhard Langer in the final round and blew his chance on 15 when he put it in the water with his approach. As leader Curtis Strange faded, Langer birdied 17 and stepping onto the 18th tee Seve firmly patted Langer on the back and said something which must have been something like "Go for it". A truly memorable Euro moment for me but as I say, its never mentioned.
