Darren's Departure

League Two Bournemouth
comment on the article

So when do you end your footballing career? Some say you should play as long as you can, others say quit at the top.

The 36 year old Darren Anderton was born in Southampton, started his career at Pompey in 1990 and went on to win 30 England caps, scoring 7 goals for his country..

It all comes to an end at Dean Court as the Cherries host Chester. Perhaps not quite the siutuation he would have hoped for but who would bet against him scoring from the bench ?

His languid style has often disguised a commitment to all the clubs he has played for and Bournemouth is no exception.

Im sure he'll be missed but he has called time on his playing career and ruled out a role as a future manager.

If you want to give us your thoughts or memories, we'll read the best out on our Sport programme on Saturday afternoon - catch us on 103.8 FM from 2 o clock, with full commentary on Cherries home and away every week.

I for one will miss his commitment, great freekicks and spot on passing!

Take Care Dazza!

the only reason why he is retiring at this time is because he doesnt want to come up and play against Blyth Spartans on the 16th because its too cold for him, and also, too humiliating for him as we are gonna crush Bournemouth and then Blackburn, and then whoever else we get in the next rounds! Haway the spartans!!!

A very good servant for Spurs. Some may question his fitness but he was like what Ole was for United - a Spurs man through and through. Personally I wished he did sign for United when Fergie came calling in the 90s - think of the medals he would have won. But I'm not complaining.

I can't believe that Darren is going, I remember going to his first game at Bournemouth and scoring a belter of a free kick from about 30 yards out.

I hope he has a good second half as we try and close the gap between us and Grimsby.

The man is a legend and a true professional. I grew up with him, and aspired to be him when I could actually play football... Who knows what would have happened had he not been chronically injured?
Always brought a smile to my face. Well Done Dazza, be good to see you back as a coach or something. Thanks for everything.

Darren will be missed! Good luck to him what ever he does in the future and I reckon he'll have one more game in an AFCB shirt, well I hope he does anyway!
