West Indies confirm English tour

International Tests West Indies
comment on the article

The will-you won't-you over next spring's Test series has finally been resolved after it was confirmed that the West Indies will visit England for a Test series and one-day series, filling the gap left by Zimbabwe and then Sri Lanka.

The Windies will play two Tests and three one-dayers, just over a month after England return from playing four Tests and five one-dayers in the Caribbean.

What do you think about this? Are you glad at the news, or do you think playing two series against the same opposition in such a short period of time smacks of desperation and will make the teams stale? And what do you think about the way the whole Sri Lanka episode was handled, with their top players preferring to play for big bucks in the Indian Premier League than turn out for their country?

Your thoughts and opinions please...

No problems here...We should ignore this &*&%% and continue with the discussion.
Here....my post again (below)!!!

It is right for SL players to opt out as they had signed to play for IPL before ECB cancel it’s Zim tour. Just because ECB wanted some team to get their match practice for their all-important Ashes, I don’t think any team should be prepared to drop their plans & come wagging their tails. Cricket boards may want to, but players may not.

Different things motivate people. At certain times, while some players pee in their pants & ask to cancel their tours when a bomb goes off, another team might agree to continue a tour. If players can opt out quoting security reasons, why not they have the say when this kind of odd jobs comes their way?

Be happy for the fact that you did not have to play SL before your sacred Ashes. If you had to, there wouldn’t be any confidence left in the team to face the Oz. But then again it won’t make a difference anyway.

If cricket is suffering, and we are looking for the culprit, I would start with the idi8t who brought 20/20 (baseball cricket) format to the game!

Also keeping in mind that this discussion is not solely (come to think of it hardly) about 20/20...The discussion topic is at the top of this screen!

AGAIN I LOVE CRICKET AND WOULD NOT LIKE BASEBALL FANS TO CALL CRICKET A "crazy type of baseball" SO WE AS CRICKET LOVERS SHOULD SHOW RESPECT FOR THE SPORT OF BASEBALL.20/20 CRICKET HAS NO RULES WHATSOEVER SIMILAR TO BASEBALL BUT ONTHE OTHERHAND HAVE ALMOST ALL THE RULES OF TEST AND ODI

If Pakistan was requested to confirm English tour, then i would have been very interested to see the battle between England and Pakistan. Nevertheless, West Indies still remains good team with an addition of Chanderpaul, Gayle, Sarwan, Bravo and Taylor.

Anyways, isn't it true that Chanderpaul, Bravo, Gayle and Sarwan have contract with IPL and were allowed to participate by West Board? If that's case, then West Indies vs England won't be interesting. I really hate IPL, but sadly, it's killing the cricket and nothing we can do about it. Although, i like T20 if given bowling condition pitch to enjoy. Otherwise, it's murder for the bowlers in flat track, that too in T20? This doesn't get better!

It would be better preparation for the Ashes if they played a third Test rather than three pretty meaningless ODIs. Is it too late to change this?

Chanderpaul, Gayle and Sarwan all became dollar millionaires thru the Stanford competition. I can't see them showing a preference for IPL over the England tour, IMHO, as a result....

I can't say the same for Bravo, though. He missed out on the Stanford payday.

Well, you never know. IPL makes people wonder>

I heard a rumour that ECB is currently signing deal with PCB to make sure provided four to five test in England 2010, in replacement of West Indies. That's what i heard. Sadly, bad news for West Indies, as should have been given more than three test. But West Indies has to work hard to make sure that impression in Test field should be given positive to attract more viewers, spectators!

Any chance England was supposed to tour in Pakistan for next two years? I know it's pointless to bring this point, but just keen to know!

Actually, the WI are only playing two Tests next year!
steam
But on the IPL, we can only wait and see....

However, given the usual public airing of pay disputes in the Caribbean, if it was an issue, I'm sure it would've hit the news already.
