Paula eyes fourth London Marathon win

London Marathon
comment on the article

Paula Radcliffe will compete in the 2009 London Marathon, after missing the last three events due to injury.

Having won the Marathon THREE times previously, Radcliffe has her heart set on the fourth to equal the record of Ingrid Kristiansen, whose performances during the 1980s saw her notch up four wins in five years.

It won't be easy though... with all three Beijing medallists and the presence of defending champion Irina Mikitenko in her way.

So can Paula make it four? Your thoughts ahead of April's race.

Hannah,
I apologise to you and anyone else who maybe distressed with comments I've made, but my initial thoughts were my beliefs even though they might be slightly biased on the basis I'm not a fan. Nonetheless your comments are noted and respected, and as you say she is entitled to make a decent living. However I have to confess to a little stir mongering (purely for devilment)after I received a derogatory comment which I took exception too early on in proceedings.
So sorry once again Hannah, no hard feelings I hope.
Regards
Darlo

ps What shall we discuss now?

Well done Darlo..I take my comments back too.

It's just if people actually look at her past and previous races in a GB vest, the arguments just don't wash.

Thing is, the BBC set it up on here every time, and we have to try and uphold her and inform folk of what she has actually done previously....every few months usually smiley

A little sarcasm goes a long way, eh?

Discussion proposed - nothing to do with Paula bloody Radcliffe I hope. How about the current economic crisis? The weather?

Actually, looking at it, I don't think you were being sarcastic. Were you?

As for "distress" - piffle. Takes more than that. peacedove

A subject for discussion - the fact that Cornwall County Council successfully bid for and were awarded the surf life saving World C'ships in 2010, which would have brought in millions in tourist revenue, and now have backed out saying there isn't the money. What do people think of that? I think it stinks.

Sorry if it's a bit random.

Thanks Hannah & Red,
Now Cornwall....apart from visiting along while ago and compounding the fact I know very little about surfing, I could be treading in deep water, but it would seem to me that to be awarded the World Championships would be a great honour for any County to have bestowed upon them. I know from news media that the sport is very very popular down there and as you point out it would generate a lot of revenue.I think it is a kick in the teeth for the surfers, spectators and all associated with the sport who have made the sport as massive as it is today. I hope commonsense can prevail and the Championships can still go ahead as planned.

I'm afraid that is a vain hope! It's gone, probably to be snapped up by the Aussies who are rubbing their hands with glee at the stupid short sightedness and short termism of Pommie sport.

The County Council is run by a bunch of back-scratching, jobs for the boys, civil servants who spend their working days on their computers checking their emails and writing nonsense on BBC sports forums. Now hang on a minute....

See earlier post!

Didn't want to name them in case they're sniffing around and I get accused of libel winkeye I told you, they spend their days doing VERY IMPORTANT JOBS.

Though agreed, it could be one of any in Britain.

Brilliant,
cant wait to see the race. Will be good to see Jo Pavey debut run.
Good luck PR and JP and Mara Y.
Hope they all win as much prize money as humanly possible. If Lewis Hamilton can earn millions driving a car and playing Tennis respecively, so can our girls for running 26 miles.
Good luck, cant wait for the race..

How do you think Pavey will get on in a marathon?
