Apologies if this reads as a very cynical view....

Now, The current terrorist attrocities in India are terrible, no one is denying that. England are correct to go home and really should stay there, but....

I have this terrible feeling that the England stars, if it is up to them, will elect not to return to India for the test series. I just wonder if they will still think the same when the BCCI come calling, promising them copious amounts of IPL cash?

I really hope they make the same decision (to stay at home), as any other decision would be an absolute disgrace, and would show exactly the level of regard the England team have for test match cricket in this 20/20 focused world nowadays.

Iam not sure that I agree with that. Cricket is a business where a little bit of risk could pay huge dividends. There is a dividing line if the Inidan teams want to have a period of mourning, well and good. But we must always understand that the moment that we give in to these criminals they win an ecconomic victory which what they want. We did not cancel football matches because of the IRA. Get real the world goes on.

Absolutely. Remember the England tour of 1984 when Mrs Ghandhi was assasinated. England came back after a brief trip to SriLanka . Similarly they were in Mumbai when the British deputy high commissioner was sadly shot dead . England the won the series 2-1.

I had a friend of mine who was at the Taj around the same time when the England team were staying . He had to cross two separate metal detectors to get into the Hotel. He was there this time as well when the attacks took place . According to him the metal detectors were missing this time! He however managed to escape. This shows that Cricketeers are given the highest security in India wherever they go.

India is still a very safe place to travel more so for cricketeers.Mumbai will surely bounce back and life will again be hectic and (chaotic)!in India as has always been the case.

Just to clear up, the UK's travel advice is that you can travel to India but you have to be aware of the risks. It then lists a number of warnings, threats, bombings, terrorist activities over the last year.

Leo Roverman, I wish there were more who think like you in this world.

"Let England make up its own mind in its own way"

That is what I said.

I am against force and insistence. Choice must be made after careful consideration.

How England decides will tell us a lot about the issues you have urged us all to consider in your post.

If England wants points clarified, India will probably provide what they can. The decision must be made freely and on their own.

Since the message in your post is impressive and because the page has turned and the thread of conversation may have snapped with it, please allow me to quote the paragraph from your post here for all to follow -

When the tube bombings occurred in London not so long ago, the Aussies didn't pull out of the tour of England, and they had no problem playing Tests at Lords and the Oval. They showed solidarity with England against the terrorists.

----------------------------------------------

Or knew that they were VERY UNLIKELY to use public transport, that it didn't affect a HOTEL they had STAYED IN and that it's a lot easier to spot a likely terrorist in London than in Mumbai or Karachi say.

Plus the numbers killed is vastly different, maybe the English and Aussie tourists have more faith in their own security people than those in India and Pakistan.

I reckon that if you canvasses the crowd at a home test match at Lord's and asked them if they would go to India in these circumstances if they got to play for England, no more about half a dozen would say "yes". For that reason, England should cancel the Indian test series and if Modi wants to spend his time trying to sue us, good luck to him, hopefully that will bring about the inevitable split with England, Australia, NZ, SA and the Windies playing each other and Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh doing the same.

If the England players don't return to India to represent their Country, then there is no way they can consider going back to take the IPL money.

As with the Standford Series where England were "distracted" by all the periferal bling, bling stuff, so they have been distracted in the Indian ODI series, being more interested in how they can negotiate an IPL deal.

Quiet frankly their performances would only guarantee them comparable status with Zimbabwean or Bangladeshi players in the bidding process, but at least those two countries are trying to continually learn and develop their cricketing prowess, whilst England are going backwards fast.

Unfortunate as the terrosist attacks are, the cancellation of ODIs (and Test) maybe better for England. The ODI thrashing was a bit of an embarrassment and saved us a possible 7-0 record. I doubt England could have done any better in the Tests.
Hopefully the team can re-group and put up a better show ahead.

Come on wake up smell the coffee. I believe that any English test match player involved in this squad that has thoughts of the IPL will go. the rest that wil not be involved will not. Simple as that. Money talks above anything.
