Controversy dogs Symonds

Australia
comment on the article

Cricket Australia have kept Symonds in the squad following the Normanby Hotel incident last weekend.

According to all the evidence, besides being in the wrong place at the wrong time, the all-rounder did nothing untoward - so it seems like CA have made the right decision.

The Aussies desperately need Symonds in their squad - they definitely missed him in India. Now they need to cross their fingers that he continues on the right path in his rehabilitation.

But it's a difficult one. He's an adult and cannot be constantly nannied. I would say absolve him from most of the stuff he hates - team meetings, bonding sessions etc - and as long as he continues to perform and keeps out of the headlines for the wrong reasons then keep him in the squad.

ALthough the guys a talent he needs protecting from himself.CA knw their Ashes campaign will be weaker if he isnt in the squad. I assume like all Test/International players they all sign up to the ICC code of conduct.

If no-body had twigged it, The Aussie media is as influenced by Rupert Murdoch's organisation as our beloved Sun is influenced by Murdoch.Picking on Symonds is just as repugnant as our gutter press's treatment of Ian Botham.Same sort of situation, same sort of characters, same enjoyment of life...maggots feed on rotting or dead meat..media maggots feed on the carcass of any gossip... and exploit it...

crouching. Off point I know, but I also heard a story a nocturnal story about Sachin - that when his son woke up in the middle of the night, he used to drive him around the streets of Mumbai to get him to go back to sleep.

As for Symonds, you're right. He should have been celebrating with his fellow winners rather than a team of high-profile losers. (And it was pretty obvious to everyone - they were in a cordoned-off section of the Normanby!)

Is it not possible that he had indeed been celebrating with his team-mates, but saw some other friends and went to join them for a while?

Who here has never been to a pub with one person or group of people and ended up talking to another group or person? Isn't that the very point of socialising?

The man clearly carries a lot of baggage (presumably as a result of his background and upbringing) and now that he's proved his genuine all-rounder worth in the Australian team, he seems to find it more difficult to cope with the pressures of the constant media attention that comes with success.

Agreed, provided he can apply some common sense in keeping his head down and stay out of trouble, there's no real reason why he shouldn't keep his place in the side.

To a certain extent, he's become a target of the media. As with others before him, he has to learn how to manage the attention to make it work in his favour, if that is possible!

Whats the problem here?
He went out with some mates, an idiot harrassed him and he acted with restraint.
Doesn't really deserve a mention on the BBC 606.
As for comparisons with "Saint" Sachin, well that's just laughable!!

I'm on board with Prof Darkface.

And Oliver, once you realized you were named Oliver, did you slap your parents?

It wasnt a surprise to me to see Symonds miss the tour of india. He has had alot of problems with racism there and i wouldnt hold it against him if he didnt want to go and get verbally abused, by fans and players, for an entire series. I thought originally that it might have been a cover up.....
The recent incident with the RL team is just the media making alot out of a small incident. Symonds probably realised that it wouldnt look good to be photographed out drinking, especially with his past reputation, and rightly declined the impromptu photo call. Sadly though the muppet who asked him for the photo took it the wrong way and was thrown out as a result of his further actions.
I cant see why Symonds had been villified for his actions.
All this aside...does anyone know if he caught anything on the fishing trip?

Yep Sachin goes on the pull in his ferrari late at night, he claims this is to get away from it all as its the only time he wouldn't get hassled... IN A FERRARI???

The topic is Symonds, not Sachins nocturnal visits to temples or driving. Ponting has corrected himself after his barroom brawl, but Symonds has to overcome his drinking problems. Then only he will become a great cricketer with his obvious talents.
