Medals or Points?

Do we really need a medal system in place? Why not alter the point system instead. Restore the 4 point advantage you use to get for winning a race and be done with it. If the teams want the top 8 cars to get points then up the win to 12 points. Just a thought thats all Bernie (good luck with the divorce by the way).

Don't need a medal system, just what the OP suggested.

Too many titles have recently been won by the more consistant man. It's about winning not coming 2nd or 3rd.

Kubica did brilliantly this year but was close to winning (Well not far off) whilst only winning 1 GP.

I'm hopeful that sense will prevail.

I THINK BERNIE IS MAD TO PUT IN A SYSTEM THAT WILL ALWAYS LET FERRARI AND MCLAREN AND MAYBE BMW WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS THE REST OF THE TEAMS HAVE CARS THAT CANNOT WON CHAMPIONSHIPS AND I THINK THE TOP 8 POINTS SYSTEM SHOULD STAY IN F1

Keep the top 8 points system. scrap the qualifiying. each race starts in the reverse order the previous one finishes in. that will mix it up a bit. the racers in the pack will have to show their skill. Oh and sack all stewards. just have independant referees to watch over the procedings aided by video replay and award point penilties at the end of the race. that affect the total tally not the individual race. that way if the drivers don't obey the rules they could win all the races but never win a title.

No offence OneWorld, but your proposal is even more short-sighted than BE's. Everyone from 10th downwards would spend the last 2 or 3 laps trying to be the slowest and finish last to gain position for next race! Anyway, enough on that.

I really don't think much change is needed, and only rewarding a podium finish would spoil the sport, since the midfield and back-marker teams wouldn't have anything to play for (say you were anywhere behind 10th even only halfway through the race, you'd just give up trying to pass people!)

I agree with some previous posts that IF anything points-wise were to change, it should just be an added incentive for the race winner. (So 12, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 would work). I think that 8 points-playing places is about the right number. Anything above 10 and you might as well just give 20 points to the winner, 19 to 2nd, 18 to 3rd, etc. and 1 to 20th. But BE's proposal for only 3 is just as bad in my opinion. It needs to be a balance between these extremes, and it IS with 8 points positions. I really don't see any need for change, except perhaps reverting to a 4 point advantage for 1st over 2nd.

I have for a long time now thought that Bernie Ecclestone was a bit of a strange one, eccentric and possibly a little bit mad. His latest suggestion of medals proves he has finally lost the plot. Has he lost complete sight of what points mean to a team ? Being a world champion is not always just about winning. It's about consistency too. If the sport needs more overtaking, all that's required is to do away with pit stops. Too much 'overtaking' is done by pit strategy and not on the race track. If the cars can't be designed to have large enough fuel tanks for the current race distance, then why not 2 sprint races like they have in WSB, BSB and the like ?

I think the proposed medal system is absolutely ridiculous,at worst you could end up with the world championship won by the 11th or 12th race meaning all the rest of the races would be meaningless so why even bother to watch them or even run them.
Also any team running lower then say 4th in any race would have no incentive to push any further so they may as well just poodle on round and save their engine for the next race especially as they now have to last for 3 races which would mean even less overtaking.
Just keep the points system and improve the winning margin but other than that if it ain't broke then leave well alone.

The simple solution to the points system would be to award 15 point to first place 10 to second 8-1 for the other places. The five point deficit would ensure the person who won the most races would take the title.

This is all about cost. A medal will be cheaper than a trophy. Lets ditch the champagne too and have a nice sparkling water instead!!!

this is all about BE getting his own way like a spoilt child and him not having a british driver win. he obviously doesnt like hamilton. he would rather his mates in the red car win.
