A plan to defeat India

One-day internationals England

Has anyone got one?
Our original squad selection looks iffy. We picked a bunch for Stanford and the ODI's, and the selection seemed driven by the need to pick the right guys to collect the dosh in Antigua, not to win the series in India. However, we must work with what we have and try to compete with a side on the top of it's game.
I can't doubt the pride of playing for the badge or heart shown by some members of the team, but wish it looked as if we were using our brains to out think the opposition.
I was very surprised we stuck with the same squad for match 4. The series was going down the pan so DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT! I for one will not complain if we lose another match by trying to be creative. In our test squad we have lots of lefties up the order, but not so in the ODI squad. Cook or Broad in a bit earlier could give the Indians something to think about, as they are 2 guys who don't give their wicket away easily and could provide stability. You can't keep on playing guys out of form (Prior/Colly/Anderson).
We have been bowled out too often, yet not done a very good job of bowling them out. If we can't bowl them out, then we have to try our best to restrict the runs. Surely the likes of Patel/Swann/Wright/Colly/Ravi could bowl tightly if it was made clear that that was what was expected? Short and wide simply will not do except as a variation. Stuart Broad got 4-fer the other day by trying lots of variations, then seemed to have the wrong head on at Bangalore.
The Indian batsmen are magnificent hitters, we just don't seem able to compete with that as we can't just hope for Fred, KP and Shah to wack us to victory. (How many has KP got this series by the way?) Much more proactivity is needed with running, placement, footwork and maybe looking for 4's rather than 6's. We either let them bowl at us and weave a spell, or go for the big hit and get out.
England have a lot of talent and big hearts. Show me you have intelligence as well.

As i said "(i cant say for sure) the biggest money spinner in cricket." No-one can really prove that its the biggest money spinner in cricket.
It would have to be up there though. The India v's Pakistan series is also an immense money spinner as well.

All in all, i cant give you proof as to which is the biggest money spinner.

Sorry, but thats why i have never commited to that statement.

========

Well appreciated, ok unlike pearl, who has made that same statement 100 times and never backed it up.

I hate people who say things, with out backing it up! its like saying Swann is the best player spinner in the world? How by proving stats etc.

Pearl does not do that!

Thanks for the backing, There are so many factors in determing which series is the biggest. As for the fan base in India, surely it has to be the biggest in world cricket but i am not sure if the finances can back that statement up in regards to economic structures.
LordProsperity seems to enjoy misquoting people, i like to be fair and unbiased.
You also seem to be a very knowledgable supporter so cheers to you.

The dew won, not India.

Talent meant nothing in this match, it was a victory for the dew!

Just like rain won the last 2 matches!

eirebilly,

"Sorry if i came across as rude, i do apologise."

"LordProsperity seems to enjoy misquoting people, i like to be fair and unbiased."

Well in one post you appear polite and in other post you accuse me of something for no reason. I don't have anything more to say. Whatever you may feel, "May peace be with us all." peacedove

LordProsperity;

I accused you of misquoting because that is what you have done. You copy and paste quotations purely based on your own interprations without fully reading the rest of said persons posts and that is unfair.

Have a nice evening though.

Plain and simple, England were beaten by a better team.

Role on the Test's, I have a feeling that will be a different storey (I hope).

Still same old problems, bowling simply not aggressive enough and as has been mentioned before, it's all the same, no variation. Whatever happended to the cut and thrust of the England bowling attack....swing!

^^ Sehwag and the crew will still destroy the english attack. Obviously not at 8 RR but at 5-6 RR. English bowlers need to step up if they want to give their team any chances. Lets see what Monty can do.

What concerns me most in here is the vast majority of poaters dont understand the "game" of cricket because they have not played the game at any really high level.

TV gives us a total birds eye view and enough analysis to form judgements which are easier to make than in the split second the referee or umpire must make knowing the eyes of the world look on..no pressure then!

If we accept players are paid a lot of money if they are successful and winning brings success then win at all costs regardless,what ever it takes flies in the name of what its about.SPORT...

Its about opinion,passion,belief,views,comment,rumour,debate...Indian supporters believe one thing and England supporters believe another but until you have played a game like cricket in a foreign country,understand the wicket differences,cultural behaviour,different values,techniques and everything involved in Teams and sports lwhy continue to agree or disagree but lets have some balanced arguement noy this yes we are no we are not.....Our ODI performances are dreadful whilst Indian performances have been outstanding.

AS always happens on these types of tour luck is either with you or against you and whilst I doubt the results would have changed things like the dew qhich is a total pain as a bowler trying to grip the damn ball its not ever going to help...DL..etc etc etc
