From Autosport:

"Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz says Sebastien Buemi is very likely to be one of Toro Rosso's racing drivers next year.

The Faenza-based squad have both seats vacant for 2009 and have tested Buemi as well as Takuma Sato alongside Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais, who raced for the team in 2008.

Mateschitz said 20-year-old Swiss Buemi is the main candidate to land one of the seats.

The Austrian also claimed the final line-up would be announced before the end of the year.

"One will very likely be Buemi," Mateschitz told autosport.com. "The line-up will be confirmed before the last test in December."

The final test of the year at Jerez takes place on 15-17 December."

I have a bad feeling Bourdais is going to be be left out to dry.

Yeah I'm starting to wonder that the only advantage the BBC are going to give us with their F1 coverage is no adverts! I would have expected at least some we're gonna do this we're gonna do that to better ITV but I haven't heard a peep! I dont even know whether we can still watch practice sessions online during the GP weekend. Perhaps ITV weren't that bad afterall...

SportsAddict2000- why have you posted a useless comment like that.
This is about Buemi and you harp on about the F1 TV Coverage!

but Sato WILL get a seat. Bourdais' seat. Don't you worry, his personal sponsorship will land him the seat that rightfully belongs to a superior driver who is one of the best at R&D and who has had more bad luck than anybody this past season.

Idiotic comment. If you have never heard of the guy then what right have you got to say that Sato would have been a better choice? It's not like Buemi is some wild pick from out of nowhere, he has been with red bull for a number of years and has been successfully working his way through the ranks with no some good results.

As for Sato, yes he doinated a faily poor formular in British F3. He is a good driver, especially in a car that he can throw around a bit and take risks with. That car is NOT an F1 car.

Sato will get a seat because he has Jpanese sponsorship behind him, if not at STR then probably at whoever buys Honda. But I still don't thnk that he deserves it. He would be much better off going accross to NASCAR. There his driving style would really fit in superbly as his ability to control a car and keep his foot down is particularly good. Also with no Japanese drivers in NASCAR he could make a huge impact over there.

Reading in the Sunday Mail yesterday i noticed they are suggesting STR are holding off announcing a second driver until Button is out of the picture. Apparently they are happy to wait and see if Honda get a buyer and Button stays. If not, they will snap him up and leave Sato and Bourdais out in the cold.

I feel sorry for Bourdais. He had a season dogged with bad luck rather than poor driving. I think he would have shown his worth this coming season.
Never a fan of Sato, so he would be my least favourite choice for the STR seat.

This decision baffles me, I know Buemi has come through the red bull ranks but he didn't even do that well in GP2 last season. He only finished 6th and was beaten by Pantano, Senna, Di Grassi, Grosjean, Maldonado, what about all those guys??
I agree with everyone else also, to drop Bourdais would be a travesty, he has driven brilliantly in several weekends only to be denied by the car, stalling at Monza in particular, and laughable penalties, Fuji!!! And unfortunately if they drop him I don't see another available drive for him.
The only reason we'd ever want Sato in the car is for the entertainment value, both when he has exceptional days (overtaking Alonso round the outside at Montreal) and disastrous days (rather more regular).
COME ON BOURDAIS WIN THE SEAT YOU OBVIOUSLY DESERVE!!

Pantano = probably too old now, main reason he won GP2 is simply experience - many of the better drivers are snapped up within a year or two (Hamilton, Glock, Piquet etc).
Senna = ties with Honda, and potential seat there if they make the grid. Tested for them etc.
di Grassi, Grosjean = ties with Renault, di Grassi in particular. Tests for them.
Buemi = has tested for Red Bull and been sponsored by Red Bull for years. If they think he's ready for it this year they'll give him the job.

Bourdais will not get the seat. He hasn't got the money, and he's Gerhard's guy, and Gerhard's been bought out. His only hope is that they decide his developmental skills and race pace will offset the financial loss (compared to Sato) of signing him.

If Button's available, Sato shouldn't even figure, we've seen how they both perform in comparable machinery. But I'd still take Bourdais over Button anyway, it's hard to keep the momentum the team had going, with two new drivers and the team boss leaving.

I hope that Bourdais gets the seat.

The continuity will do the team some good.
