The Beautiful Aim

Premier League
comment on the article

Arton Baleci has not played organised football for five years, but in 12 months he is aiming to prove he is good enough to be in the Premier League.

He plans to do this with the help of a team of scientific experts.

The 23-year-old will use neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) modelling, the feldenkrais method and top-level conditioning coaches to try and achieve his dream.

It is said that young people up to the age of 16 need to put in 10,000 hours of practice to become a so-called expert in a sporting field. But Baleci believes the accelerated-learning process of NLP modelling can help him do it in a year.

To read more about his project, which he has called The Beautiful Aim, check out his website:

How far do you think his novel approach can take him?

It will never work. You have to have had more than that amount of training to reach that level, plus you have to have extreme natural ability.

And Ronaldo at heading? He's good but not THAT good.

Good luck to him, but don't knock Wenger. If an individual doesn't cut the mustard by a given time then Wenger redirects his resources, a simple efficent management tool used throughout the world. The only teams who could afford this approach are the teams who can afford a top class academy and go out and buy players if needs be, so its proving a pointless point. But it would make a nice footballing Rocky film, call it The Law of Diminishing Returns, or if that isn't catchy enough - "Nozza".

"Delph - the next Bremner"
------------------
"Wenger says if a player doesn't have the technical ability by the time he is 14, if he doesn't have the physical capability by 16 or 17, the tactical ability by the time he is 18 or 19 then he will never make a really good footballer.

Suppose Ian Wright was never a good footballer then? He didn't start until, I am led to believe, around 20 or 21?
--------------
There is a difference, Wright wasnt spotted until he was 21(?), he always had the same talent just slipped through net of the scouting networks so to speak. TBH it is very unlikely that anyone with the potential would be missed these days, as clubs are much more thorough with their scouting theses days. 25 years ago scouts were mostly ex-pro's being given a cooshy job once they retire, as a result they were'nt always excellent judges of potential, and if they went to see a player and he had a bad game, it is quite easy to understand how he could slip through the net. These days clubs spend years researching players, apparntly Arsenal had a file on Ramsey that was going back to when he played for Camarthen under 11's, and had scout reports from many many games.

Does anyone out there know what "explosiveness" is? And why Fernando Torres possesses more than anyone else?

i dot nthink this will work, simply because he is too old and doesnt have too much natural skill to begin with. for this method to work (to such extremes) i would imagine you would need a developign body which can be moulded, not one set into its groove. also there is only so much you can do without natural talent.
some people have it some people dont. its as simple as that. he'll improve but he will never be up to super star standard.... id give him a league three spot

Also be interesting to see how much any sport would improve, if all drugs were allowed.

It's hard to believe non are being used, some
are probably so new, not even screened for.

People need to stop critising the man and the methods and just see this for what it is - an experiment. How many of us dream of becoming a world class footballer but never do anything about it? I do not think he'll succeed in becoming a professional, i don't think a premier league club would even think about offering him a trial, nevermind sign him, but nevertheless the results will be interesting and i wish him all the best

no way
its not possible
to be a top player you have to have ability
ability - is inherited and is inate
you can coach a player as much as you like be they can only go as far as their ability can take them
he will not make it

A combination of power and acceleration? From a standing start.
