my player ratings:

byrne: 7 did well under the high ball, only problem did kick away instead of running in the 2nd half and didn't look where he was passing.

halfpenny: 6 didn't seem to touch the ball.

shanklin: 6 strong in defence not same player as last season.

roberts: 6 like shanklin strong made a few brakes that's about it.

williams: 6 didn't really see much of him would have scored if cooper kicked it throw.

jones: 7 100% with kicking toke us foward in the 1st half did nothing in th 2nd.

cooper: 6 should have kicked not stop and picked it up, his passing was good and defence was ok.

powell: 6 didn't carry much his defence was ok ryan did all the donkey work for him.

williams: 6 give to many silly penalties away. but did ok in the rucks.

jones: 7 did all the donkey work for powell carried well. tackled well.

evans: 7 carried the ball did well in the line out. shame he got injured.

wyn jones: 7 did well in the line out too, also tackled well.

jones: 6 got punished to many times in the scrum mind you sometimes it wern't him, he did tackle well.

rees: 5 needs to sort himself out, give penilties away, also he's throwing in wasn't as bad as the sa game but still needs to do a bit better.

jenkins: 6 he also was punished in the scrum and most of it wern't him, tackled well.

REF: 5/10

in all fairness we did play well in the 1st half but the game is 80 min. but if you don't have the ball then you can't score. ref was a bit thing but you can't blame him, the game should have stopped 2 men down and a foward pass. but there we go let's look foward to next week.

wales to win.

pob lwc cymru.

Shame about Shane. Where are all those posters now telling the world that Shane Williams was going to run all over the AB's. Its already been said "against the best he is second best". Only Welsh player to rate was fullback Byrne. He would benefit from a Super 14 season. He is a very good player. The rest were trash.

Don't know who did the posters, but foolish to say anyone, let alone Shane, would run rings round the All Blacks! But give Shane a break! He has lit up Welsh Rugby over the past few years, and given the chances will do again. 2 things that would help, Wales keeping the ball in hand more, and the groundsmen at millenium doing something to stop the turf being so slippery!!

Despite the defeat I think most Welsh fans will be encouraged by the fact Wales are competitive with these top sides.
That last NZ try was onl a gift really and a fair result was more like a ten point margin.
I think the Six nations will reveal the steps forward wales have made
If NZ, Australia or South Africa were playing the 6N they would win nine times out of ten. Wales are almost there and if they maintain the level they should win the Championship again.
Scotland and Ireland were both well beaten by the All Blacks and England don't look like they re going to compete either.
Wales are now a high intensity Test side and wouldn't look out of place in the Tri Nations.
Gatland sad it would take two year, so give it until the end of next season, but that was a great game yesterday. A really hard Test match.
Waes t run Australia very close next week. England will realistically be cheering if they can finish with a good competitive game against the All Blacks themselves.

haha yes i said New Zealand by 20 points! Decent game I thought most, i found it more exciting than the Ireland match. This is a big moment for me, i am about to be nice about the Welsh..........I think you deserve to beat Australia and i really hope you do now.

To be honest though, New Zealand were just cruising in the first half. They were arrogant and their sheer class shone through in the second half.

They won't be doing that against England, they will come out all guns blazing and beat us easy.

Graham Henry's comments were slightly patronising i thought though. "Saying you should be proud of your advances"

He would never say that about any good rugby nation, for example England :D

Good luck against Australia, i heard they dominated the French, so you are in trouble!

Scrumhalfcharlie,
Skrela missed 5 kicks at goal or 15 points - not much of a domination to me. Don't forget Wales strangled the life out of France in Mar...
Those points aside, Sat should be a belting game if Wales can get going.

scrumhalfcharlie

France totally outplayed Australia and should have won.

Skrela only kicked two out of seven pens and ballsed a drop goal. Some of the kicks were straight forward to... Aus were very, very lucky to win

scrumhalfcharlie - mate, you're dreaming if you think the kiwis were "cruising" in the first half.
I was almost pitchside and they were knocked out of their stride by the intensity of the Welsh challenge. It was Welsh ferocity, and the All Blacks were weathering the storm for a while, unable to get their rhythm.
And what's more, the more experienced Wales get in these kinds of games, the less rhythm the Blacks will find.
Wales, in my view, are a coming force, a side going forward.
Even without four or five top players they are unrecognisable from the team that played, for example, Scotland and Italy in Cardiff in the Six Nations last season.
They have come on miles, and were mixing it very effectively with New Zealand.
And the All Blacks had some luck in that second half. Neither try came without a huge helping hand from lady luck. First one when two Welsh players were out of play injured. Second one when Wales were throwing it about in a last minute hope of scoring a few points.
It could just as easily have been 15-12 as 29-9, and thats not just wishful thinking,as is sometimes the case, but genuine appraisal! Hook missed an easy penalty.
And Henry was generous in victory, not because he used to coach Wales and Gatland is a Kiwi, but because he could genuinely see the improvements.

mikeyphil1 - that's a great response, well thought out and presented. I agree entirely as I am sure the vast majority of Wales supporters do. Cheers mate !!
