Stewart's Family deserve an apology

comment on the article

I forgot to add this into my last post, so here it is.

Its been well documented the fact that today was the remembrance game of Stuart McEwan, the young academy player who was tragically killed in a canoeing accident. The minute's applause was impeccably observed by both Reading and Southampton fans and players. However, imo, the respect from Reading players stopped there. 4 players (possibly more) did not even have a black armband on in the first place, so to see a further 2 (possibly more) rip their's off after going 1-0 down was utterly digusting. Its even more disappointing when you consider that all of the Saints players (even subs) had their armbands on and wore them througout.

Am I the only one who noticed this? And, more to the point, am I the only one that feels like contacting the club and telling them exactly what I think? I wouldn't say we're a team with players with the 'superstar' attitude - far from it - but I do believe that one or two should be disciplined severely for this obvious act of complete disrespect.

First of all I sincerely doubt any disrespect was intended. Players you have named on another board have had bereavements themselves in recent times so will have been well aware of the situation.
Have you considered that
- players were wearing armbands under short sleeves ?
- that some may have found the arm bands simply slipped off ?
- that (as Harper has said about the captains armband) some simply don't like the constriction

Personally I don't think it's a big deal, I'm nuch more interested in the performance as I have no doubt a win would have been a more fitting memorial to Stewart

No i saw the same mate, in the 2nd half only a handful of Royals players had there black armbands on, i feel sorry for Stewarts family and my thoughts are with them.

In the second half I thought only the Southampton players were wearing them and thought it was an oversight. Didnt realise they took them off, more credit to the Saints in that case. Their supporters were great during the applause.

In a weird sort of way maybe it was karma that the team lost, unacceptable really, the family must feel betrayed.
Respect to the saints players and fans for keeping in good spirit and form to show respect for a young lad and his family's big day of remembrance.

at first i had only realised the southampton players wearing them and then before 10 minutes had gone i saw kevin doyle throwing his torwards one of the reading coaching staff, imo very disrespectful and disgraceful, a 13 year old boy has lost his life and they cant even wear a black armband for 90 minutes to show respect

yep i saw Doyle do that to, i sit in G7 in Row E so i saw it perfectly well (right next to the Dugout) and have to say the look on Ron Grant's face said everything, as much as I respect Doyle that was really unbelievable

Thats shocking to be honest, he was a young royal, who could have been a team mate of these guys in the future. I hope your club deals with this behaviour and throws the book at them, don't they realise that this young lad's family could have been at the game and witnessed that? Glad that the saints showed their respects and that the home and away supporters were a credit to this boy's memory and his family ok

That is sad, i hope they got a little from the fans of both clubs, such a sad thing to happen, but this is a celebration of life and the applause from the fans show the family that football fans do care.

ok Well said, I didn't see the incident so I can't comment but it does seem a bit disrespectful especially from a Reading player let alone if it was a Southampton player.
