What a game and what a well earned point for newcastle.

Defended well and played with a solid ten men behind the ball.

Good sound tactics, credit where credit is due, well done newcastle.

Chelsea was poor, passing was not as sharp as it has been and final 3 play was poor, title race wide open still as it seems all teams are going to drop points.

Newcastle downsides:-

Duff was poor, very poor and I cant understand why he plays to be honest.
Butt once again tried to throw it away with a shocking pass backwards that let a chelsea play in and an on form chelsea would have made that 1 - 0.
JK whats with his subs? When Martins was on I always felt newcastle could steal it, Jonas played well and looked unhappy when he was subbed.

BUT

At the end of the day its a point away at chelsea a fantastic result and a well earned point well done.

Can you build on this and get 3 from boro or will you throw it away by playing poor next game?

What a sour post, Bluupnorth, I've seen a poor Chelsea side come up to SJP to play a good NUFC side and aim solely to frustrate and hope for a draw, (they got a 0-0 too like we did today,) don't be so 'kin high and mighty, we won't play all our games this way, just games against the SKY 4.

(Maybe you would have been better writing, 'poorer clubs going to richer clubs, by the way.)

"This often happens when small teams go to a bigger club. With their limited resources these teams have to do what they can to stop the other team playing. The spuds did it earlier in the season, Burnley did it & Roma in the CL. In the end these tactics get what they deserve. I guess you have to applaud teams like Hull who at least tried to play a good attacking game at OT. Teams like Newcastle are killing the game and i hope they go down."

Rubbish. When Chelsea fail to break down teams at home, it's parking the bus. When Chelsea get to play and score, then it's hail Chelsea and boo and laugh at the losers. It's always all one way and nothing on the other side. as someone said, Given should be credited with some aplomb but you get sour notes like the above instead.

Actually what he said was completely true! Do you not think that we would all see better football matches if every team tried to win every game?...

Apologies if you support Liverpool because there whole gameplan is to nick and goal and plant ten men behind the ball too!

footballreason ,

Chelsea have never 'parked the bus' before in their history, have they?

Wigan came to SJP the other week, scored an absoloute raker early on and spent the rest of the game feigning injury/time wasting etc, and we weren't good enough to defeat it, seems you lot with your bigger, better squad weren't good enough either. Horses for courses, mate.

Every team do try to win, doughnut, but they wager up whether their quality is enough to go for the attack throughout the game or they simply hold defensively and branch out on the counter. It's never anything else, it's always parking the bus. When a team finds a way to thwart or reduce an attack, it's deemed as 10 behind the ball. Chelsea are equipped enough to beat that, no??

As for Liverpool's gameplan, just be quiet. Teams have come to Anfield and held defensively (Stoke the most recent team), Everton did it two seasons ago, we didnt like it but we had to get on with it and the Everton game ended 0-0. Didnt go on about it, it's for the attacking side with their qualities to break that system down. Teams employ it because of the threat of the other side. Rather than look at it negatively, you should take it as a compliment.

You want to go on stupid with wiseguy comments, go in the corner. Not interested.

The big difference between Newcastle and Fulham is that the latter tried to attack Liverpool and push them back creating more space. Newcastle wouldn't have played like this at home, they would've been booed off the pitch, therefore Chelsea would easily open them up at St James hence the reason Chelsea are creaming teams away from home. Scolari knows that an early goal will destroy visiting teams' tactical approach and Newcastle rode their luck. I feel this was a cynical display but admire their resilience, they will however be punished for it and hopefully humiliated or will they use the same tactics at home?

No.

To be fair, we got a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, but actually played a little, however, KK was in charge and we were a little better off players wise, horses for courses, I'm afraid.

It's a bit frustrating when you're on the recieving end of a team who sets out to be hard to beat first and foremost, it's happened to us enough times in the past, (including v CFC), but, there you go, get a goal and you totally f*&* up said teams strategy, so, what are you waiting for? GET A 'KIN GOAL THEN!!!!

You're coming across very bitter, you've still got a great chance of winning the league, don't dwell on a home draw against us, Jesus! wah

this is such a boring deabte, it finished nil nil, newcastle's game plan worked as far as chelsea r concerned it had no bearing on owt in the end. but our in ability to break teams down at home was once again exposed.
I remember when we used to go to ST JAMES's n try n shut up shop, neva really worked that well at times lol, remember losing 4-2 up there once and 2-0, kharine went to clear a ball over top from shaka hislop n smashed it in to ferdinand he scored twice i think, THE GOOD OLD DAYS.

It depends whether their history began when Abramovich took over the club, I guess.

"As a neutral I found the game to be boring with a rubbish Newcastle team that were playing for a draw with most of their players camped out in their own end for most of the game. It's time that the points system was revised and no points given to either team for a draw."

hahahahahaha. reads like a Viz letter.

We know teams are going to come here and try to frustrate us! its not exactly big news. Its us to up to break these defensive teams down. If we do score then they have no choice but to attack and the game opens up. We had chances but didn't take them. There will always be afternoons like this and luckily we didn't lose any ground in the title race.
