Not So Pointless

World Cup

comment on the article

After reading so many comments about how the World Cup was pointless as Australia were obviously going to win, will those same people now admit that New Zealand's deserved win shows it was worthwhile after all ?

Interesting set of Union scores today - not many Union trolls on here now saying OUR matches are one-sided/dominated by S. hemisphere/pointless ...

Today was a good day.

Record defeat at Twikkers
-------------------------------
I'm usually pretty ambivalent about England RU and I wouldn't normally gloat, but after all the patronising comments from some of the folk on 'the other board' during this RWLC I was hoping and praying that they got a right stuffing today.

Totally pointless. 'Rugby' league should give up its ambitions of becoming a world sport. The world cup should be replaced by a county championship between Lancashire, Yorkshire, Australiashire and New Zealandshire.

Truckandtrailer, I was trying to keep out of the silly debate that so often starts between some union fans and some leaguies, but I can only assume you've not seen the match. If you've not, mate, get a recording from somewhere. You're right, rugby league is not a world sport, but one of the biggest mysteries in life is that it's not. Watching the thrilling RUGBY (Notice we're usurping the word for a change)in this final, I can only pity those sports fans who don't have the open-mindedness to marvel at the skills of these athletes.

Good to see Cayless thank the English supporters in the crowd, in his speech after the game. I find it peculiar why Ricky Stuart picks Craig Fitzgibbon and Joel Monaghan, they were really quite suspect yesterday(and other games I have also watched before final).

it was good to see rugby union shooting itself in the foot over the weekend while the rlwc finished with a cracker of a game. The Australia v france union game was shocking, as always with rugby union the ref was highly involved in everything at the expense of continous action and it was yet another union game dominated by goal kicking. Looking forward to the four nations league comp next year.

Great post, but I disagree that RL's lack of exposure is a mystery. The reason is boring old prejudice among media executives.

Well done to New Zealand & I'll eat my words about the Aussies winning by 20 points. The final was a great match & far superior in terms of speed, skill & determination to anything that Union offered up on the international front this weekend.
