Rugby World Cup final - Australia v NZ

comment on the article

So here it is, the finale to the Greatest Game's global showpiece - and it's Australia v New Zealand. Should have been England, but let's not go there.

The world champions gave their Tasman cousins a right proper doing over in their first match of the tournament almost four weeks ago, a 30-6 mauling at the Sydney Football Stadium.

But can Stephen Kearney's side pull out the almightiest of upsets going? The bookmakers don't think so, they have Australia as 10-1 on favourites to add yet another world title to their trophy cabinet.

But the weather isn't too hot in tropical Queensland, so we could be in for some serious downpours at the Suncorp Stadiun. So what are your thoughts? Another Aussie rollover or a game for the history books? Either way, let me know via this thread for the live text for the World Cup final:

lol! Love your passion galinor. I think a regular international tournaments featuring up-and-coming nations (Russia, Italy, Serbia, Japan, USA et al) is necessary to bring their standard up to the tier 2 nations (Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Samoa etc). Then we can have a World Cup that is truly competitive. After all, there are now 30+ nations playing "the greatest game of all". What a final!! magic

Great to hear all those Aussie sore losers blaming the refs, where were you all when the Aussie refs were having shockers? Lost count of the number of inept decisions England were on the wrong end of!

I am happy to concede the English players bottled it all tourament, why can't you have the same grace and admit you blew the whole tournament in the last 20 minutes of the world cup final.

Can't wait to read the online editions of the Aussie rags later, they were so up themselves it's going to be fun to see what they write!

Congratulatios NZ, from an over the moon pom!

Wow!! Lots n lots of custard with that humble pie!

Never mind throw another shrimp on the barbie! It was the Aussies who got their fingers burned and the Aussie press who got their comeuppance for their arrogant and belligerent mouthing off!!!

Work it right up em!!! they deserve NO pity whatsoever

WELL DONE N.Z.
p.s. i will enjoy that lamb now! smileysmileysmiley

Absolutely brilliant! The Aussies do not like it when the opposition gets in their faces and stops the likes of Lockyer and Thurston from playing. New Zealand were excellent and fully deserve their win. I agree with an earlier comment regarding refereeing decisions. England were on the end of some appalling decisions which had they gone our way may have made some difference particularly those decisions made early on in games.
Well done New Zealand but I know that the Aussies will take this defeat with good grace and the good losers that I know they are!

There's plenty of good grace among Aussie fans, despite what some of the posters are saying. Personally I posted opinions sneering at those of you who gave the Kiwis a chance, and boy am I glad to be wrong, not because I'm a resentful English fan, but because the real winner here has been rugby league itself. What a game! What thrilling, breathtaking rugby! How soon can I buy a dvd of the match?

Well done the Kiw's! You deserved your win.

I copped it all day yesterday and I'm sure there will be loads more to follow.

Plus paying out various bets also !!!!!!!!

I can understand the anti ref postings though. 11-3 penalty count????

Anyway the pubs open so time to cop some more abuse!

That was great for Rugby League that someone else won the compition. I hope this is an insperation for other teams to say yes we can beat Australia. They fully deserve it. And the old clesha goes fortune favors the brave and NZ showed that yesterday. Well done NZ and well done Rugby league.

Not Sure which headline I like best...

Kiwi's Route Aussie's

Aussie's Bomb Final

Either way it's nice to see the smug, one-eyed Australian Press so neatly humbled.

Congrats' the Kiwi's... In one game you have changed the face of International RL forever.

Skiperoo
You only get an even penalty count if the infringement's are the same on both sides.I would have thought that was obvious.
OZ V England was a fine example of the Ref not knowing the rules.
