Just wondering what people's opinions are
Is what Gallas said defendable or is this just one step too far from the captain?

If Arsenal were top of the league, Gallas would still be captain and probably hailed by some for his unique approach. He's as much to blame for our losses as anyone - but he does not see it this way. The problem for him is that he is not essential for the team. As a captain, he has never really been a great on-field general. He seems to prefer to keep shtum on the field and then criticise his team in the press. Why not to their faces? Why are we hearing this? What possible good does it do the team - especially a young one? It's not as if its ever worked or change the team's spirit. I think he's a talented defender and also stuck up his own but. Not captain material. But who now? No team member seems to be rousing consoling team mates on the pitch the way Viera did. Where have you gone, Tony Adams? Our arsenal turns its lonely eyes to you . . . woo woo woo.

Well Gallas wasn't entirely a strong captain . He did not possess the charisma of a captain . With young players filling the side , what arsenal or rather any team require is a person to rally around . He was quite the opposite as fans would recall after the Birmingham match last season . Arsenal have had inspirational captains like Adams , Henry , Bergkamp at times and undoubtedly Viera in recent history . Arsene is looking into the mirror right now and thinking what he should do to save Arsenal . Despite being a United fan , I have utmost respect for Arsene Wenger and his team . Am sure he is just soaking up all the pressure and defending his lads .

The problem was making Gallas captain in the first place! A squad can cope with a childish, moody and arrogant player, but he should never have been allowed anywhere NEAR the captains armband. One of Wengers worst decisions, if not his worst, at Arsenal.

If they play poorly and lose today, and maybe their next match aswell, are Arsenal facing a mini crisis?

I just wonder what kind of half time talk does Gallas have. If he is such a selfish player, it cannot be that good.
As much as people can criticize Terry, he always looks like a true team player and a true motivator.

Say what you like about WG(off in january), misguided and full of ****, he's actually pinpointed a major failing in the Arsenal team for the last 3yrs and its totally down to one man alone and thats AW!
Some of the young players who have been in the side for a while now have been babied to much in the recent past and now dont know how to react when its down solely to them to dig themselves out in tough games. Its ok having good technical ability but sooner or later your charactor will be challenged has its been over not only so far this year but last year and the year before and if you havnt got some strong players in the spine of your team when it does then your gonna be found wanting as it is now.
Its AW's dream to play so called'fantasy football' but look at when he was very sucessfull and other winning teams world wide and you'll see that they have a few not only very good players but some very strong charactors.
I still want AW to be Arsenal manager but he has to compromise between the two styles but it seems the older he gets the more stuborn the fella is.
The youngsters in the squad and in reserve are great but i think the time has come that some of these guys need to be shown what its like to be at a big club and pressure needs to be exerted if they dont perform otherwise even if they play ok but dont win or get a result then they dont feel the need to do anymore and they feel comfortable and this is where we are at the moment.
Not what we are all about, but as long as AW and staff take players off the books on big money and replace'em with young talent trying to make a career on conparitively small money and make money selling players (we made over £17 million on players this year alone) then the board are ecstatic!!.
I thought i would never say it,being a Gooner for 48yrs but now we have one of the worlds best stadia and making dosh hand over fist, top 4 aint good enough we need to win trophies and need'em soon as im fed up with having the emirates as just a 60,000 seater cash machine!!!!!.

Why should Gallas be quiet when Fabregas and Toure are allowed to mouth off all season about what a good captain they would be?
