India win after Bad light to lead 3-0.

One-day internationals England

Bad light has brought a premature end to the 3rd ODI with India winning by D/L method by 15 runs. At close India needed 43 off 9 overs with pietersen and patel bowling but India were happy to take the light. The D/L par score was 183 so India were 15 ahead and win by 5 wickets.

It is a frustrating way to lose an ODI match when you consider that the stadium has floodlights and why can't they be used. The ICC need to look at this rule or we will have matches endeding like this where teams are playing for the light knowing that they on D/L. It was a poor end to the ODI match and gives India a 3-0 lead, which looks like India will win the series. However, my before the series prediction of 4-3 to England is a possibility but not realistic. But, the batting order looks better but I would have put Shah down to number 4 and dropped Collingwood for Wright. The decision to drop harmison was correct as these conditions don't suit him.

What are your thoughts on the days play?

Welcome to the Forum. I am new too - my 1st message appeared yesterday.

I understand the blame / excuse game that we have here, and don't support it. But I am trying to be bipartisan. Cricket has become a big business, and hence, very political.

To me - BCCI = greed; ECB = Ego, CA = Opportunist. The rest are too small to have a significant influence. As I said earlier, the existence of ICL (and EPL) could be very beneficial for cricket. But, BCCI, and hence, ICC are not letting it happen.

In the US, there is NFL. Not too far back, a new league USFL was launched. Guess what? Using the same tactics that BCCI is using, NFL killed USFL. So, nothing new when it comes to money and power.

Too much analysis leads to Paralysis. 43 runs needed in 9 overs less than the scored run rate plus BATTING POWER PLAY of 4 overs remaining; I don't see how england would have won no matter who or which team bowled slowly. If lighting was available; 4 overs of powerplay alone would have fetched 30+ runs. Have Coffee or beer and chill guys. Its Friday-weekend.

Take a chill pill guys. MSD and his team are professionals. 43 runs needed in 9 overs ; actually it was 47 needed in 11 overs with 4 overs of ":BATTING POWERPLAY" yet to be taken. They even refused singles in last 2 overs to ensure that wicket was not lost. secured the game first. As what MSD said after the game; his objective was to secure gfame and if they had lost a wicket; they would have taken powerplay. Powerplay alone would have yielded 30 runs. Importantly MSD hinted after the toss; he would have fielded if he would have won the toss; knowing fully well that D/L would come into play. They played to a plan of staying much ahead of required run rate for D/L and maybe lost 5 wickets. Indian won it squarely. chances of england winning were maybe 10 % . Yet England did play well in 3rd ODI compoared to initial 2 ODIs.

have questions
1. flood lights.. why not use them. i mean is flood lights bad, cause of shadows that ppl reluctant to use it?
2. cant they just come back next day and finish the remaining 10 overs (its not like they are all busy in other 'meetings')

In history of Cricket D/L has been used for the result. Organisers have to comply with ICC regulation.

India were in control of match....so please stop excuses.

How often we see matches are affected in England due to bad weather.

The third ODI is played according to rules.Umpires decided to reduce one over for 45 minutes delay,no change in lunch timings etc. There is no rule to apply commonsense.Even if Steve Bucknor were to umpire this match, the result would have been same. England lost fair and square. With the same rules they won few matches by D/L method.
The point is now, why the players and british media is whining now?

The answer is no-one is 'whining' about the result.

Questions are being asked of the schedule and planning that meant a full match was never going to be played.

Don't be fooled into thinking the result is why these questions are being asked. The media and people here in England like nothing better than to complain about England. Had England won by D/L there would be more outrage, the media are only happy when England lose.

Even with floodlights on, england might have lost the match with many overs left. The rules are clear and they lost the match. They should stop cribbing and get on with preparation of next match.
