Championship Cardiff City
comment on the article

Some good news through all the injury madness. Wayne Routledge tonight signed on loan for two months from Aston Villa.
Things are looking up again!

quite ammusing that 2 villa fans have cardiff related nicknames. deadley ledley (joe) and roofthegrange(end)!!

anyways, decent signing this i recon, exactly what we havent got, a right footed winger!

Good short term signing for Cardiff. Only problem I have with this story is that Ledley will be out for upto a month!!! He's only dislocated his finger (if he was a goalie i'd understand). Rugby players do this all the time and just get on with it, and they require the use of their hands a hell of a lot more.
What's wrong with footballers these days, break a nail and they are out for a week.

I think this could be a good deal, we finally have a right foot winger. He could turn out to be a decent player, buying out of favor Aston Villa players hasent been too bad in the past, look at Peter whittingham.

I think this should work well for both Cardiff and the player. The fact that Wayne is not in the Villa side says more about the strength of the Villa squad than any shortcomings Wayne might have. I'll read the Cardiff match reports with interest over the next few weeks.

Despite what beleive saw he has some great, natural talent and has the ability to be a decent premiership player or a GREAT championship.

I hope for his sake he settles in well for you ok

Routledge was a big deal when Spurs signed him from Palace but he did nothing for us (unfortunate that Aaron Lennon started his career so well) and obviously didn't impress Fulham or Portsmouth enough during loan spells. Good luck to him anyway and Cardiff. Quite like Dave Jones.

would it not be a sensible move to sign proven players from lower devisions rather than reserve players for premier league clubs?

Heshhotsandscores,

As we've seen with players like Maynard, Trundle, Vokes, Billy Sharp, and Easter, being a proven talent at L1 level doesn't automatically translate to being a proven talent at CCC level. In Routledge, we have a player who excelled in the championship with Palace and merely couldn't get game time at either Spurs or Villa because of the amount of proven Premiership players in their respective squads. Due to injury crisis, we have no time to wait for L1 players to adjust to the step-up in quality.
