To all fans going to the Hatton fight...

Please don't boo the American anthem like you did before. You heaped shame on our great nation at the Mayweather fight. The Calzaghe fans didn't boo the American anthem when they went to America TWICE to see their man win.

Do us proud. Show BOTH anthems respect.

Brandyrecovery

I find it ironic with your name that you tell me I shouldn't boo anthems after a fe pints with your name implying you need to recover after shot sessions.

And for your information... I didn't boo! I watched and listened as a different culture stood up with their hands on their hearts and looked on with pride.

It was a stark contrast to seeing the same people standing with their hands on their hearts looking over to a rabble who insulted their guests in their own backyard.

England has a problem, but tries to pass it off as a Spanish and Eastern Bloc problem. And this topic is about English disrepect for other people's anthem, not a local polictal issue that stretches back many many decades that unfortunately has encroached into local sport and other cultural corners.

At least there is a real reason between the rivalry of Swansea and Cardiff. English club fans fight because they are bored. And if you do not know the history behind Swansea - Cardiff then it is best you do not speak about it.... and my opinion on those violent people is pretty low.

Whilst you may have a point, do you really think any of those reasons are the ones that Hatton's football fan army are thinking of in booing the anthem?!

He could be fighting in Canada, New Zealand, Japan or Sweden and they'd probably still boo the anthem.
--------------

honest answer - yes - I think these are the reasons that the man on the Clapham omnibus disrespects the USA... and I think it's because they dispresepct the USA that they boo... I don't necessarily agree that they'd boo other anthems. Though I do agree it was an undesirable element of british culture.

PS... the welsh angle is welcome - bringing a note of humour to the debate!

presumably the Chinese, African, Italian, Jewish, Albanian, Polish, Scottish and Irish (etc. etc.) contributions to the US population is insignificant besides that of the Welsh? LMAO

Excuse me Morfa, but I lived in Swansea for 4 years and played football in the Welsh leagues (for Garden Village & Llangeinor).

During that time I encountered more racist abuse than I ever have living anywhere else (I am Indian) but I would never be so stupid as to generalise and say "the Welsh are racist". Some people in Wales are, a lot of them are not. The same applies for England and most other countrries in the world.

I was in the CIA when Charles Brewer fought Calzaghe and the US anthem was booed then. It's only because of the problems with Hatton's last fight that the fans for the Calzaghe fight realised that it was a silly thing to do and could cost their fighter.

So don't try to seperate "the English Hatton fans" from "the Welsh Calzaghe fans" as they are probably 70% the same people. It's just by the time JC fought in NY the public had realised what not to do...

Btw, pretty stupid to claim there are "real reasons" behind Swansea & Cardiff rivalry and think the same doesn't apply to any other local rivalries (Blackburn v Burnley, West Ham & Milwall, etc, etc)...they all have a historical context but most of it is still about p*ssheads having a punch-up! Like blokes have done since the dawn of time...

To be honest, one doesn't need help with getting the laydeez when in Wales - only kidding! (before Morfa or anyone else kicks off on me about racial stereotypes!).

Anyway back to work...here's wishing Ricky Hatton the best of British for tomorrow night!!

<cheers>

Everything that America is today would not have been possible without the Welsh influence forced to go there centuries ago.

Oh I see, so, because you were opressed and "forced by the English", that made it ok for you to opress the indigenous americans and enslave africans in the u.s. and carribean?

Of course you don't have to take any historical responsibility because the English made you do it.

I get your logic now, how silly of me to not understand!

Maybe I'm wrong, but don't the Welsh boo most anthems during the 6 Nations? Or is it just the English one ;)

I've been to three of Calzaghe's fights recently and didn't hear a murmur, never mind a boo from the Welsh fans.

And yes, I'm English!
