Maradona or Sinatra

A lot of folk are still getting their knickers in a twist over the moral character of Diego (in particular a Mr. Butcher, who ought to go and lie down in a quiet room for a wee while).

There's a line in the Mario Puzo novel 'Omerta'.

The main character is discussing Frank Sinatra with a secondary character, and the secondary character is basically laying into Franks character due to Frank being something of a nasty, horrible wee bully at times.

The main character, knowing it is true but still willing to defend Frank, says:

"We must separate the artiste from the man."

The same goes for Diego Maradona.

As a man, he leaves an awful lot to desire.

As a football player, his talent was unrivalled.

Therefore, can we stick to discussing Maradona the football player in 606?

I am sure there are forums somewhere on the internet which are specifically designed to allow people to slander the characters and reputations of anyone.

606 is not one of those forums.

I just posted a reply that got pulled, shock horror !!

Got to Youtube and seek out Gerrard's dives against Portugal and Andorra and Joe Cole's dive against Croatia (more of an after reaction).

England players cheat all the time so, like I said, condemn one condemn all, if not shut up. Diving for a penalty is no differnet to handballing preventing a goal as is handballing scoring a goal.

How many times has John Terry thrown himself at balls like a goalkeeper blatantly handballing for penalties that are never given ?!!!

Nice try LiverBirdMate but if you think I only read that one post from you to come to the conclusion I did think again. Your words betray you. I read several posts of yours repeatedly lambasting one of the greatest players that ever lived for that one incident and as Eboue says unless you do it every time for every player who cheats on the spur of the moment you are a hypocrite pure and simple. And if you're saying it never happens that's even more silly.

For your information I was actually rooting for England but if you really think England had a chance in that match you are deluding yourself. You should have just held your hands up and admitted you were outplayed as we were last night. I just can't understand why many of England's supporters Can't let it go. Its quite frankly hilarious. And yes while people like you cling to this one incident you will be ridiculed.

Believe you me the pleasure he brought to millions around the world for his genius on the pitch goes way beyond the goal he scored against England. That's just a bonus laugh

What is it with the jocks and Englishmen called Butcher plying their trade North of the Border? He's doing his job and speaking his mind. Why all the nastiness against him?

It was just the same for the last one, Butcher Cumberland.
