Hamilton v Hoy at Wembley

comment on the article

If you're going to the Race of Champions at Wembley next month, you could be in for a rare treat as Britain's fastest men on wheels will go head-to-head in a unique race.

Formula One world champ Lewis Hamilton will line up in a Mercedes road car alongside triple Olympic cycling gold medallist Chris Hoy...on his bike.

Now Hoy may be a bit speedy on two wheels, but taking on a Merc is probably a bit much - as he says himself, he can generate around 2.5 brake horsepower, which is a little bit less than Hamilton's motor.

There is a twisty track to factor in, but whether that will help or hinder Hoy remains to be seen.

Being a huge fan of both sports this gimmick could just make me buy a couple of tickets. While I admire what he has achieved I have little interest in Hamilton based on how he was "guided" into Formula One; give his opportunities to any one of a number of aspiring ten year olds and the outcome would probably be the same.

Hoy on the other hand is a true champion and has probably sacrificed much more to get to the top than Hamilton can even imagine.

Who will win in Wembley? Well it’s not about the result so much as the occasion, but wouldn't it be nice to see two wheels coming across the line first.

Imagine Schummie v "The Doctor"..........

It does not matter how Hamilton got to F1, he still had to demonstrate his talent and be just as dedicated as anyone else to get there, There seem to be alot of ''Billy know it alls'' who think they know the driver/equipment percentages......so why aren't you racing in Formula 1? The truth is both are great sportsmen, whoever wins Sports Personality does not change that fact.

Why are some people so mean minded, both Hoy and Hamilton are great champions, and at times breathtaking to watch.Just enjoy them. No-one, apart from their family, friends, and, later in their careers, their colleagues, can really comment on the sacrifices they have made.

Disagree with the person who said that Hamilton was guided whilst Hoy is real champion. Hamilton is in highly competitive sport, Hoy is in a sport that hardly anyone competes in.

"Hamilton deserves Sports Personality of the Year"
-Well only if you class driving a fast car as a sport. I accept a lot of people do sit in their armchairs and watch the monotonous drivel that is F1 racing. Some people even like it. I also accept that Lewis Hamilton is a talented individual in an extremely high-paid job.
Chris Hoy is a highly talented committed athlete in a "real" sport. He doesn't race for the money. He's proud to win medals for Britain and hasn't emigrated to avoid paying UK tax.
There's no contest in my opinion....
