Hatton V Malignaggi: Official Thread.

comment on the article

For a third successive week we have one of the top Brits in action. Congratulations to both Joe Calzaghe & David Haye for their mesmerising performances over the past 2 weeks. However, now is the turn of Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton.

Coming off a shut out win over the dangerous Mexican, Juan Lazcano, Ricky steps into the ring against the cocky, self-assured Paulie Malignaggi. Over the past few weeks there has been a few mixed opinions as to the outcome of this fight. Paulie certainly has the skills to beat Ricky, with his crisp, eye catching punches; but no knockout power. How telling will this be?

For the first time Floyd Mayweather Snr will be in Ricky's corner. It will be very intriguing to see how this partnership works, and what Floyd has brought to Ricky's armory.

For the first few rounds Ricky should be trying to put the heat on Paulie, bring him out of his comfort zone, and try and make it a brawl. My only fear is that Ricky could run out of gas, leaving him open to shots that Paulie is no doubt capable of hitting Ricky with. However, with no knockout power, I can't see Ricky being stopped, and the tinkering with Ricky's defense by Floyd should get Ricky through by UD.

Let's hope it's 3 out of 3!

Again, I'll try and keep it near the top, BBC mods are preventing me from doing so though it appears. Also, do we know what the approx numbers are that are traveling to Vegas? It can't be another Mayweather-esque turn out, surely..??

I stayed up to watch the calzage fight but I might pass on this one esp if its on at 4 am. It should be a more exciting fight to watch than that relatively boring calzage, jones fight. I hope ricky wins but it could go either way.

I'm unsure about buying this (although my girlfriend has suggested we go halves so I may just take her up on the offer)

I was due to go to the Damnation Festival in Leeds this weekend but the bank have just taken out my first mortgage payment which appears to include an amount based on their calculation of "How much money do we need to take of his account before it leaves him completely screwed for the rest of the month?"

To save money, I may have to cut down on my drinking this month...........laughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaugh

I think that Hatton will either swarm all over him - and blow him away quickly, or he'll grind out a hard fought win over a counter punching, back peddling Malignaggi.

I really can't see Malignaggi wanting to trade leather with Hatton; I really hope he does mind, because if he's that foolish then he'll get knocked out in double quick time.

I love Hatton’s fighting style and I’m willing to bet if you did a pole on which fighter has earnt the most respect from their opponents and their fans, then it'd be Hatton.

Hatton hardly mentioned the fact that when he fought Mayweather the ref was overwhelmingly bias towards his fellow American.
I was sick to the stomach with the protection offered to Mayweather in the first few rounds and when Hatton eventually lost, I was completely and totally gutted – nay, I was close to tears. But did Hatton jump on a soap box and shout about it? No - indeed he made reference to not getting the same rub of the green but he didn't go on and on.

I however, I went on and on about it but all Hatton wants is a rematch to see if he’s got what it takes to beat an excellent Mayweather – who I have to say was remarkably humble after the fight - credit to him.

I personally think the only reason more wasn’t made of the poor reffing standard is that almost everyone considered Mayweather would have won regardless. I know I’m Hatton bias but i really though and still think he could have won the fight.

I digress...If Malignaggi is on the receiving end of such protection, then Hatton is knackered. If he’s not, then Hatton will win.

Ps, Boxing needs Ricky Hatton’s as they bring with them humility and earn respect outside the sport.

Malignaggi's self promotion is bordering on the ridiculous and smacks of severe lack of confidence in his ability at this level.

Hatton within 9.

Hatton should win, but after his consistently lame performances dating back to Tszyu, who knows?

I won't be paying £15 for the privilege of sitting up to watch it. Surely PPV in this country is on the way out.

I'm putting a fiver on Hatton to get stopped in the 11th. Hatton's stamina over 12 rounds hasn't been the best in his last few fights. Hatton will himself out with a lot of airswings and Malignaggi will score points with plenty of counters and combinations.

Malignaggi went 12 rounds against Cotto and soaked up some good shots. Hatton doesn't carry the same power as Cotto. Hatton has looked sharp in training, but so did Roy Jones before the Calzaghe fight.

Hatton is a fighter on the way down, Malignaggi is on the way up. Hatton's done all he can and has been in some wars which have taken a toll evident in his past few performances. A sad end beckons for the career of the Hitman.

A slightly different placement of those words could look very dodgy indeed Ben!

Were you a little bored when you wrote this article by any chance??

Sorry Philsmithy.
I was referring to the Ben Dirs article that links to your thread.

As for the fight, I'm not sure which Hatton we're going to see. First he says that he's gonna give the fans all out action, then he says he's going to be more composed, use the jab and think??

Personally, against someone like Paulie, I hope he chooses the latter approach!

Paulie has not a hard punch but otherwise is reasonable.
Hatton will go in absorb what he throws and give him a good hiding
I wont waste my time watching this idiotic match up.
