Which team is the most frustrating?

Hi everyone,

Ever since I bought an Orbea in 2004, I've had a thing for the Euskaltel team, but they so rarely seem to win anything of note. It's all very well getting riders into the top 10 or 20 in the TdF, but I just wish they'd go all out for a stage win or two. Same with the Vuelta, and they don't even seem to do that well in races in their own backyard these days. I know that they have a restrictive signing policy, but they have enough quality in their ranks to mount a serious challenge and take some major wins. My hope for 2009 is that they'll take overall in the Tour of the Basque Country, a stage in the Tour de France and the Vuelta and maybe the Clasica San Sebastian. Come on you orange men with the peculiar surnames!!!!

Are there any teams for which you have an affection, but never quite live up to expectations? What would you like to see them win? Why do you like them?

well, Euskaltel had the gold jersey for two or three days in the Vuelta... and had Igor Anton not had to abandon they could have challenged more.

I like Caisse, but the problem appears to be that Valverde is both their top sprinter and GC guy, so they just sit in the pack working for him until they get the kind of finish they like for him; and of course pinning all your faith on Don Alejandro is setting yourself up to fail because he'll always make that one mistake that costs him in a grand tour.

I'd like to see him win a grand tour, that's about it.

Cofidis are also an infuriating team to watch because everyone of note keeps leaving them; oh, and while Moncoutie was killer in the Vuelta, there is just something appealing about rooting for Chavanel's doomed breakaways every time.

I always loved Kelme/Communidad Valenciana. Always performed way above their billing. In the PC Game "Pro Cycling Manager", I even took them to the top of the UCI rankings with Alberto Contador and Ruben Plaza in 2006!

T-Mobile gave me a few hair-tearing-out moments. Letting Pereiro get 34 minutes away being the worst, Klodi could have won that tour! Also, Vinokorouv going renegade about 20 times forcing Ulle up the mountains with him.
Michael Rogers falling off and breaking his collarbone (I think) was pretty darn bad too, heartbreaking as he rode on for 30 minutes, eventually with one arm lying limp as he couldn't accept a bottle of water from the car.
Also...Ulle getting kicked off the tour the night before it the year he was "destined" to win!

I oved T-Mobile too. Which is one of the reasons that I ride a 2006 team strip Giant TCR-Composite!

If we're talking teams gone-by and not current, then for me its probably Fagor circa 88/89. The cream of british (and one irish) cyclists riding in the pro-peleton in those days in the same team: Stephen Roche, Rober Millar, Sean Yates and Malcolm Elliott. And what did they do, apart from Yatesy winning a time trial in the Tour at Wasquhal(sp?) and Millar going the wrong way at the top of Guzet Niege when a dead cert for the win??????
