This is Davydenko's 2008:

He started the season by reaching the semi-final of Doha, losing to Andy Murray.
Reached the 4th round of the Australian Open, before losing to Mikhail Youzhny, 6–7 3–6 1–6.
Made the semi-final of Dubai losing to Feliciano López in 3 sets.
Won the Miami Masters defeating Rafael Nadal in the final, 6-4, 6-2 to claim his second ATP Masters Series title.
After Miami, Davydenko made the final of Estoril, losing to Roger Federer, after retiring at 6-7 2-1.
At the Monte Carlo Masters Davydenko lost in the semi-finals to Rafael Nadal.
Won his thirteenth career title in Pöertschach.
After a disappointing French Open, Davydenko won in Warsaw.
Davydenko loses to David Nalbandian in the Paris Masters.
Loses in the Masters Cup to Novak Djokovic 6-1 7-5

In total he's won 3 titles in 2008. And that is a lot better than most.

Nikolay Vladimirovich Davydenko born June 2, 1981 in Severodonetsk, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union) is a Russian tennis player.
He is, as of November 10, 2008, the top ranked male player for Russia, 5th in the world, and the winner of fourteen ATP singles titles.

Davydenko's best result in a Grand Slam tournament has been reaching the semi-finals, which he has done on four occasions - twice each at the French Open and the U.S. Open.

Apart from those who are born to be gods (Federer and Nadal), there are very few who encapsulate, better than Davydenko, any of the many true essences of tennis. Hard work, perseverance and resolve.

Surely, we can come together now and make his stay here with us worthwhile. Surely, we can come together as one, to hell with our differences and choose to herald one who is destined to be an unsung and tragic hero.

Davydenko; the battering ram who takes all the blame, all the pressure, and still turns up on match day.

Tennis has a great ambassador in him, it mightn't seem like it. But trust me; that's what it is. Let's not eulogise him when he's gone, let's start now, let's make him a memoriam, something to know and remember him by.

Let's cross our fingers and hope that those loud-mouthed Nazca lines on his attires, the voluptuous Lady Luck, and Miss Congeniality will attract the favor of the gods.

Let's be custodians of this lone light.
Let's be fans of the carrier of the soul of tennis.

For all who are to come, for those who want to join, say so. And your names will be forwarded.

Are you a total buffoon? Paid by the ATP? You think the ATP pay him to play tennis?

Do you have no clue as to how these things work? Christ man, stop please, you embarrass yourself with almost every post.

For your own sake, stop posting on the tennis threads because it is clearly a topic you have no clue about.

Sobasi - your thread title is called "Fan Thread". To be a fan of someone you have to like them - Donkey is someone who generates zero feelings in people, he flies under the radar. We dont hate him, we dont love him.

Roddick has that elusive X-factor - "character".

Davydenko has....a tennis racquet.

Sobasi. You can't force people to follow him. They will either support him or they won't. Give it up. If they want to come they will, but for heavens sake stop bleating on.

Okay, i'll be a little hardnosed:

I've seen an andy roddick fan club here. well, let me say something he did not have the mettle to stay at the top.

Just shows that you dont understand the origins of the "Chronicles" at all.

It was published originally specifically as an ANTIDOTE to meaningless fanthreads and fan worship.

It has since morphed into a bit of fun and the whole point is that it doesnt seek to eulogise, because of the irony.

duggietoo, must we only support the people who can get to the top.

Support who you like, but stop trying to persuade others with far more knowledge than you by writing ridiculous hyperbolic articles grounded in fantasy.

Beethoven that's a huge exaggeration, you fully know what i mean.

i'm not forcing this on anyone, i'm just saying that since Davydenko is no represented here on 606. he is in a way then, a neutral zone, and thus someone else every other can support.

"Soemthing we can remember him by."

He'll be remembered more for the match fixing scandals than anything else.

You can quote me on that.

Hey that's not fair...I remember I just referred to this once, suggesting it was the pressure of it that was causing him to play badly, and got my post removed by the mods immediately. You got away with it wolf but you know there are 1000 reasons to laugh at a Sobasi article and not support a Davydenko fan thread, and something which he's been cleared of is not one.

that's a low blow on Davydenko.

To show his commitment to tennis, how often have you heard him pulling out of a tournamnet?

That little fact there is an admirable quality.
