Wales v Canada

International Wales
comment on the article

Wales host Canada in their least high-profile autumn Test at the Millennium Stadium.

The bookies are giving an inexperienced Canadian side a 43-point start against Wales' second-string in Cardiff.

What do you folks think?

From the planning of this game Wales have not given Canada the respect they deserve. They did not even appear in the autumn series adverts. This obviously affected the players who went on the pitch over confident and not concentrating. We must remember It wasn't so many years ago that Canada beat us. It must also question our strength in depth.

OK guys, I'm an Englishman, who is now an ex-hooker having played at a pretty poor standard. If I was Brian Moore, I'd certainly wear a disguise - he's not a pretty sight.
There are pedants (nit-pickers) from all nationalities, including the Irish, and I do like a pint of Guinness.
Congrats to the Welsh for their victory, plenty to work on though, and congrats to the canucks for a very decent performance.

Aussie-Rugger;

I still have contact with Jason, he is indeed a fine person. I unfortunately was just not good enough to play at the highest level, but will never forget that time in Queensland.

I have to say... they keep saying Canada played well today and comparing to their game to that of last week... Last week Ireland was clinical for 3/4s of the game, the Welsh were fummelling idiots for 90% of this game!
What disappointed me was the referee and the BBC... For the second try, the referee certainly did not see the touchdown and did not send it to the TV judge... I thought it was not a try, because a hand looked like it was under the ball. At half time the Canadian guest protested about this and BBC Wales did not show a repeat of the try! What is that for objectivity? The first penalty try was already decided in the referees mind before the scrum, otherwise there was nothing intensional about what happened. It was never a penalty try! Disgusting and very worrying for Wales! If I was Wales, I would just call off the ABs match, without Henson and Hook, Wales are nothing. I didn't think Canada played better than last week...

Hmmmm. Some major anger management issues there then. I take it you're not a Welsh fan and you are with the elite cluib of clowns and arm chair critiques who like nothing more than to critic a young and inexperienced Welsh side, who played badly for 90& of the game (ok, fair dos) and yet still won !!! That speaks to the character and guile of that welsh team. Plaudits to Halfpenny and Yap - well played guys. Excellent.

As players were coming out after half time I could see a lad with a Welsh scarf reading 'Come on Wales land of my fathers'
I think most of Wales fathers would be squirming in their graves! A crowd obsessed with Mexican Waves - to try to distract the Canadians? - piped Welsh singing and an absolutely third rate Welsh performance!
Shocking! I live up in Northamptonshire, well away, sadly, from the Principality, and I still feel ashamed! Did halfpenny really score a try just before half time? I do'nt think so!

To BBC : Why did one of the commentators insist on talking about "porn" names during the 2nd half? and frequently giving commentary on anything but the match? (Light moments are of course welcome).
My young nephews did question these (almost repeated)remarks which were uncalled for, in my opinion of course. Sky Sports, Kudu, SS, provide professional/technical commentary, (even a "learning experience for the uninitiated") so why not our revered BBC?
kind regards

Looking forward to AUSTRALIA crushing ENGLAND tomorrow. And yes, I will be as critical and quick to chase error in England as some "pedants" were in here today when Wales played. AUSSIE !! AUSSSIE !!! AUSSIE !!!!

OK everyone, for Aussie-Rugger's sake can nobody post anything on here unless it's unconditional praise for this magnificent Welsh team who delivered a superlative performance tonight, sweeping aside a mighty Canada, one of the dominant forces in world rugby today, while barely raising a sweat.

Some points that I feel need addressing in this thread.
Firstly, is mustard (or custard) anything other than yellow? Yes I agree that the colour wasnt the best choice by the ppl at Under Armour, but I think it's daffodil yellow, even tho they call it gold doh, which is appropriate.

Secondly Ireland have made only six changes from Canada to NZ. Wales made 12 changes from SA to Canada and are probably going to make in the region of 10 changes from Canada to NZ, altho not that many changes from SA to NZ. So in some ways this Wales side was much less tested and inexperienced that Ireland, altho I don't think that excuses the poor performance of this Welsh side, just trying to put the differences between Ireland and Wales against Canada into a bit more perspective.

It is encouraging to see a Wales side perform badly and come away with the win, but it came at the wrong time, going into NZ we would have wanted a better performance than this. The poor performance I feel stemmed from them not being able to get a good start, and making many mistakes in the first few minutes. Which is another thing that needs to be sorted out by Gatland. It would be alot easier for Wales to beat the best teams in the world if we played from minute zero and performed for the full 80 minutes, it would be nice if we could win games against anybody by only playing in the second half, but that is rarely a reality.

As for Canada, I think 6 of their players have pro contracts in Europe, and their coaches were looking a lot more towards their youth in this game, which seemed to pay off to a certain extent. Another reason why they managed to stay in the game so much, was because of the work of their backrow at the ruck, managing to slow Wales down effectively and turning the ball over on numerous occasions, which has to be a worry for Wales when next week we are going to come up against one of the best teams at the breakdown.
