New Zealand team for the semi-final

World Cup
comment on the article

New Zealand coach Stephen Kearney has named his side to take on England in Saturday's World Cup semi-final.

One of the most interesting selection calls sees Thomas Leuluai, who has come under fire for his performances at scrum-half, swapping places with hooker Nathan Fien.

Do you think the switch to hooker will help the Kiwis get the best out of Lueulai? Or will the disruption at half-back be an area England can look to exploit?

Other changes see Simon Mannering switch from the second row to centre, while captain Nathan Cayless, winger Sam Perrett, prop Sam Rapira and second rower Sika Manu all return to the side.

Has Kearney got his selection right? What do you make of this Kiwi side? And how do you see the semi-final going?

New Zealand: Lance Hohaia (NZ Warriors), Sam Perrett (Sydney Roosters), Simon Mannering (NZ Warriors), Jerome Ropati (NZ Warriors), Manu Vatuvei (NZ Warriors); Benji Marshall (Wests Tigers), Nathan Fien (NZ Warriors); Nathan Cayless (Parramatta, capt), Thomas Leuluai (Wigan), Adam Blair (Melbourne), Sika Manu (Melbourne), David Fa'alogo (South Sydney), Jeremy Smith (Melbourne). Replacements: Issac Luke (South Sydney), Greg Eastwood (Brisbane), Bronson Harrison(Wests Tigers), Sam Rapira (NZ Warriors).

Lets hope the Kiwis smash us all the way back home then give Oz the cup and lets put this awful waste of time to bed.
The whole competition is a joke i just hope upon hope England don't get through that would be a complete injustice apart from a couple of the so called cream of SL the rest of them have played with no passion, pride or guts....the only 2 sides from the northern hemisphere that have played with any of the above are Ireland & Scotland well done both!

Its up to them Wether they stand facing the Haka.
If they don't it just detracts from England and the team in many peoples view.
I believe they are going to face up, its no big deal if a few players grunting and slapping themselves with their Tongues out worries you then I suggest you should not be on the field anyway.

What's the point of naming teams if they can be changed right up until the match, unless the chosen team is a bluff (or maybe a double bluff) ?

I'd love to say I'm optimistic for this weekend, put I can't be. I too am of the opinion that it would be doing us a favour if the Kiwis beat us. If we do happen to win, it will by a super-human effort that is likely to leave our boys battered and drained a week before we face the Aussies with the prospect of almost certain humiliation yet again. What good is that for either the credibility of the English game or for the players moral ?

Yeah - the Aussies were far too good when the World Cup was held over here so what chance has anybody else got down under ? The Kiwis might have a slim chance if they hit top form and the Aussies don't as the majority of their team play in the Aussie NRL in any case. Come on then England - prove us all wrong.

Any optimism or not on the part of England fans is irrelevant, it's the players who count.
The Aussies are playing on sunday & I don't think that will be a walkover.

Moving Tommy Leuluai to hooker means they are worried about Roby/Higham...they think they will be able to counter our exocet missile partnership….both trained by Keiron Cunningham! I doubt it…..the forwards are strong, the backs will have sorted their game… Smith is playing a blinder….come on the Brit’s

I really fancy England to win and possibly by 15 points or more.
We cannot be that bad any more than we have already.
I actually fancy the team we have out apart from Gleeson (overated) and think Higham and Roby will keep us fresh at the play the ball (not rucks)

Should be a belter of a game, may the best team win, also think Fiji will give the aussies a good game, unless they bottle it with nerves, expect big thinks from Hayne/Millard/nequama/uate and most of all big Ashton Sims, the forward of the tournament so far.

a great weekends rugby league, shame i'm at work
