9: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Masters Series

To all my doubters out there; I, Sobasi do indeed watch tennis.

The current Masters Cup, not so much, nonetheless I keep myself well-informed.

I turned on the T.V. yesterday, oblivious to what was going on. I'd missed the coverage of the Masters Cup, so was then resigned to watch 30 seconds worth of highlights. The particular highlight I was destined to see was the Tsonga v. Del Potro match.

As I looked on at the swagger and ease that they struck the ball with, I was awestruck. Tsonga in his fluid, flamboyant striking and Del Potro with his mind-boggling, head-spinning returns defending against Tsonga's onslaught. I stopped to think, in those few seconds, time froze. It was hard to realize and point out, but I saw it; everything they did, it was effortless.

Striking the ball, defending, attacking, counter-punching; it was seamless. Nobody broke a sweat. They were running all over the court, and still striking the ball sweetly. It was graceful. In the immediate past, Federer alone was capable of flawless natural tennis, but now, it's not only him.

In the Djokovic v. Davydenko match, the crosscourt forehand from Djokovic from his extreme right that ended up rifling past Davydenko, who was in fact in positon. Then there was a forehand volley in the third set from Davydenko at 3-3. These were the essences of sublime.

In total, I'd watched one minute worth of tennis, and straight away in my head I knew that in Shanghai were tennis's newest evolution. Things were done in those matches, that really couldn't be done by mere humans. Then it dawned on me; of the 6 billion people in the planet, these 8 and (Nadal) are the unique ones, Generation X, the uber-class, the league of extraordinary gentlemen.

Surely, tennis couldn't get any better. Really, could it?

Agent I am convinced this is an incarnation of Conosu.

The phrasing and repetition of key phrases are just too similar as is the ability to dodge questions and change tack.

I did pose the question but got no reply - just a conosu-like soft shoe shuffle.

And also true that Davydenko won.

Talking about Davydenko; i'm impressed by his long shelf-life.

"it's true Tsonga won."
"And also true that Davydenko won."

Brilliant. Thanks for the confirmation. All it does is prove some more you are clueless on the topic of tennis.

I was patrolling a pachinko.

Nude noodle model parlor in the Nefarious zone.

Hanging out with insects under ducting

The CIA was on the phone

Well, such is life.

The newest evolution of tennis is Nadal and the players that were in Shanghai on the 9th of November 2008.

Such is life.

They are the unique ones, Generation X, the uber-class, and the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Such is life, such is life.

Checkmate, baby
God bless us and our home
Where ever we roam
Now take us home, flaquito.

Nobody said it was fair.

After watching this recently finshed Federer v. Murray match.

Can anyone still say and stay contrary to the last words of this article that "surely tennis couldn't get any better"

Could it?
