From TottenhamHotspur.com

Giovani dos Santos will undergo an examination of his right ankle under anaesthesia on Tuesday to determine the severity of his high ankle sprain.

The Mexico international was seen by a specialist on Monday morning, who confirmed the diagnosis of the injury suffered in training last week.

Manager Harry Redknapp said: "Gio will go for an exploratory examination tomorrow but hopefully the outcome will be positive so he can return sooner rather than later.

"We all wish Gio well and a speedy recovery because I have not had the opportunity to work with him yet but everybody tells me he is a real talent and his record suggests that is the case."

Lets hope its nothing too serious.

Yeah I sprained my ankle a couple of years ago, I seriously thought I had broke something! It was about a month before I could walk properly let alone run and kick a ball, its a right pain in the arse of an injury!

Mine is still swollen and I think I have suffered scar tissue on the ligaments which is why I need to see some one.

I can honestly say it's the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I've heard a few times the pain from tearing ligaments is worse than breaking bones? It's a shame I'm not a pro as I would have had a nice slow motion video playback of my foot turning into places it shouldnt go!
I managed to hurt everything around the ankle, inside and out bar the achillies tendon. I dread to think just how far my foot must have twisted to do it so conclusively!

Regarding the comment by Bentley's lob on (formerly WHS)

"Yeah I sprained my ankle a couple of years ago .......its a right pain in the arse of an injury!"

it must have been bad if the pain spread that far!!

Whilst sorry GDS is injured, I too am glad that there is a genuine reason why he hasn't featured in 'Arry's squads.

One other thing - although a Spurs fan for over 40 years I have only been to the Lane a few times. One of them was last Thursday v Dinamo Zagreb. What struck me was the lack of support/noise/singing from our fans until we scored & they were superb when we got on top. However I feel the crowd should encourage the team but it seemed to be the other way around. What do regulars at the Lane think?

I find at WHL unless Spurs are playing well then it goes a bit flat. From experience it's hard to motivate yourself to sing let along do that AND motivate the players.

If you want hardcore atmosphere then you need to get yourself to an away match, Spurs away fans are the best in the league and can always be heard over the home fans.

It totally depends on which ligament is damaged. I used to suffer major problems with my ankles when I played competitive tennis and it was totally down to which ligament decided to go that week.

I know it's not in the ankle but if you do a cruciate liagment in the knee then you can be out for 6 months minimum.
Think my record was 3 months for an ankle ligament and that never fixed properly.

Lets hope it doesn't affect him after the initial layoff.

But remember last season at about this time when Gareth Bale had exploratory ankle ligament surgery and he ended up being out for the season, sounds all too familiar! hope its nothing serious though.

oh and i agree with tottenhamMattSpurs, i think ligament damage hurts loads more than breaking a bone, i tore my cruciate + it was so bad!!

hope giovani's ok though!

Hope its not too bad. Think he'll look better in a confident ball-playing team.

Re: White Hart Lane, I've sat in all stands aside from West and find the south stand (near away fans) to be the best atmosphere every time.

Depends what you want really and sometimes, there are matches that are a bit quiet - e.g. liverpool end of last season, but for the big ones especially its an amazing place to be! - 4-4 with Chelsea, 5-1 against the south londoners!

Good news from the official Spurs site:

----------------------

Following an examination under anaesthesia, it has been determined that Giovani dos Santos' right ankle will not require surgery.

The Mexico international, who sustained the ankle sprain in training last week, will now begin his rehabilitation and is expected to be sidelined for up to four weeks.

Hello,
glad to see all the positive responses to Gio's injury.
As a Mexico -and Liverpool- fan, I've been following the boy's career very closely and I have to say that he's a real gem. Can't wait to see how good he's gonna get once 'Arry gets to work with him.

Cheers.
