How?

.....

How did we throw that one away? On evidence of the performance, we looked the better side, Everton were off the pace and we made a very good side look very ordinary. But not for the first time, we have squandered our chances, where we could have killed the game off and Everton suddenly switch on and find the back of the net 3 times!!!

Unbelievable! Can't say Everton deserve to win and I am not being bitter, they will be the first to admit it but when you switch off the way we did at this level, A side like Everton, even though they have been average for 80 minutes of the game, They will punish you.

This will be hard to take. The match itself started off so well, even though we didn't score, we dominated the game. A Matthew Upson thigh injury didn't affect the performance, Everton thought themselves lucky to go in the break at 0-0. The positives were young Sears and Collinson makinng an impact whilst experienced heads such as Bellamyy and Parker impressed, only thing lacking was the goal but in the 2nd half, collinson put that right, good combination play between him, Parker and Bellamy saw Collinson with room to shoot and unlike last week where he put his shot straight at the keeper, he curled it beautifully past Howard. Everton went straight to plan B, bringing Vaughan on for young Jack Rodwell and stepped the pace up looking for the equaliser, After threatening from a few set pieces, they put a period of pressure on and typical West Ham, we didn't deal with it as Lescott superbly finisheded to equalise. Then as Iwas still raging about the equaliser, I didn't see who scored the 2nd, but it appears a deflected shot went in and in the space of a few minutes, we were going to lose the game. The heads just dropped completely and a sloppy pass from Faubert let Saha get on the ball as he showed West Ham what you need to do to win a game of football - Take your chances and boy did he take it!

Overall, a dominating performance for a lot of the game has been completely overshadowed by a lacklustre finish. I am so disappointed, again we have to pick ourselves up. I fear for us dropping into the relegation scrap!! Fair play to Everton, they may have been average for most of it but when they switched on, boy did they punish us!

Green - 6 - I can't blame Green for the goals, defence just switched off and we seemed to accept the 1-0 scoreline.

Neill - 6 - Started Right back, moved to centre back and neevr looked troubled until the last 10 minutes, then the less said the better.

Upson - 6 - Subbed off early for a Thigh injury, didn't affect the game much as it was settling down when he was on.

Collins - 7 - Solid is a good word to describe a defender, Collins was winning everything in the air and throwing himself in the way before the suicide period.

Ilunga - 7 - Showing himself to be a good full back, attacking well down that left, supporting BOa Morte and linking with the attacks. I don't really know what happened at the end, the whole team ahs to take the blame for that.

Faubert - 6 - Had to shift into Right Back, originally adapted well looking to get forward a lot but the final ball was lacking. Poor pass to concede the 3rd.

Parker - 8 - I feel sorry for him, worked his socks off and dictated play from midfield for the large part. But like a marathon, if you don't save anything for the sprint finish, you'll lose and he looked tired as Everton took the game from us.

Bowyer - 5 - He was alright in the centre and someoen had to go out on the right. I can't say he adapted too well, he certianly wasn't awful but he neevr really got into a right midfield position, cutting inside and leaving gaps in the closing stages.

Boa Morte - 6 - See Faubert, Final ball is lacking, and that bit of quality in front of goal. Worked hard, broke well and held it up better than I have seen him before but not convincing.

Bellamy - 6 - Looked bright and dangerous early on, but he did squander a few good shooting positions, he impressed in the build up to the final third with his pace and dribbing skills but the finishing touch was lacking.

Sears 7 - had a great first half young Freddie, but like Collinson last week, 2 good chances to score, 1 denied by a great Howard save, the other was a poor finish from a good shooting position. What else is there to say except well done on a bright, promising performance today.

Subs:

Collinson (Upson) - 8 - Impressive, his goal was one thing but his play in general filled me with promise. Greatrun out for him, shame about how it all ended....

Etherington (Boa Morte) - 6 - Unfortunately, Ethers didn't get into the game.

Di Mechele (Parker) - 6 - Like Etherington, came on too late to really affect the game. By then, our heads had dropped and Everton had the points.

I'd rather have West Ham playing the way curbs had us playing, than these 2 kids . we would not be in this trouble if he had stayed. roll on the Championship

There are some pretty harsh comments from other evertonians on here, but while some seem to be worded to spark reactions, I think the underlying point is clear.

West Ham don't deserve anything from the game; you simply can't take a nap at the end of a game, especially when you're only one goal in front. I hope Zola sorts it out, he's a nice guy smiley

Merseyblues - we know the underlying point, it's been this way all season, although yesterday we played for 80 minutes and earlier on it was 70 minutes. We are getting towards the full 90, but maybe not quick enough to avoid the relegation dogfight that seems to beckon. We are playing good football, and we had the best of most of the game. I watched it with an Everton supporter and he couldn't believe the final score. Needless to say, he was over the moon and I was left crying in my beer.

However, this is the WHU part of the 606 board, and really some of the Evertonian comments are just downright ugly. Why? You won, we lost, isn't that enough? We don't need fans of other clubs telling us what's wrong when we already know. Personally I have a lot of time for David Moyes, but he looked worried in the first half. His substitution with Vaughn coming on for Rodwell made a huge difference and you look your chances better than we did. But to say that we didn't deserve anything is to overlook just how outplayed you were for several periods of the game.

Er Tex this is on the Everton board as well as the WHU one mate.

I dont think anyone of us watching the game can believe that the game ended the way it did. I also dont think that there are many here, on the Everton board, think that our performance throughout the whole match was acceptable by our standards.

What I think there is a general objection about is this view that we didnt deserve it. When Pompey came up to Goodison earlier in the season we played some really decent football and got stuffed 3 nil. Did we deserve to get stuffed, of course we did, we didnt score and they did. 3 times.

You say that you deserved something out of the match because of your superior play, because you were the better footballing side on the day, why?. The idea is that your superior play gets you the goals to win the match. Yesterday WHU put on a fine display of passing and movement, we love it when our lot remember to do that too, but ultimately thats all it was - a flashy display - because you did nothing with it.

A mate of mine, funnily an LFC fan, made the remark that WHU yesterday were like a lap dance....lots of nice sexy movement, appreciated by all, but with stuff all chance of a bang at the end.

The irony is that probably the only thing you were missing, for a pretty complete performance, was a commited and hungry striker.....like Louis Saha!.

You know, there's an awful lot of truth and common sense in toffeejones posting.
Some, on here (naturally in view of the disappointment) are trying to find solace in the fact we put on a show, but it is the cold hard truth that you win a football match by putting the ball in the net more times than your opponent.
A boxer can dance around the ring all night and look good but if he wants to win, sooner or later, he's going to have to thump the other guy.
WH have two major flaws. One they can't find the net and two, they keep forgetting, a match ends when the referee blows the whistle, and until Zola can cure those two faults, they will keep losing.

toffeejones - sorry, didn't realise that this was on the Everton board as well.

Your Liverpool supporting friend is right about our footie at the moment, nice analogy laugh

And yes, we are missing a Louis Saha type player. It's just depressing when we play good stuff and have nothing to show at the end of it. But some of the mean-spirited comments have got to me. I just can't see the point in being mean or rude to other fans, when really all we want is good discussion.

cheers

Your right about what WH need to do. Trouble is we have a board that ignored the signs and sold players Curbs wanted and brought in players no one else wanted. Then they bring in a rookie coach, who had to be Italian if certain people were to keep their jobs. He's expected to bring it all together. We'll it isn't going to work, despite him being a nice guy. It doesn't make him a manager or miracle worker.. The Chairman has set the club structure up like a business company. Looks nice on an organisation chart, but it has made the footballing side a bit part. This is what happens when some people in the club think they are more important than the team. The board will pay for this foley in the end and sadly so will the fans.

How does the media justify the frenzy about a mediocre talent such as Sears. The fact that he is young. local and English simply ignores the truthful fact that he is also wasteful, inelegant and out of his depth.
He is no super star in the making-he is simply a person a manager has a misplaced faith in and presumably poor eyesight. He still plays with all the vision of a schoolboy and all the aplomb of a pub player and i cannot see that this will improve with age-perhaps he'll become the next Bobby Zamora and be able to kick a ball out of the ground rather than just into row z.

Watched the full 90. Have to say West Ham deserved something from the game. However, West Ham were a team playing at their best. Everton were a team playing somewhere near their worst for about 70 minutes. As soon as Everton woke up they always looked good for an equaliser. Don't know how they scored 3 times in 4 minutes. Taxi for hammers!
