LATEST LETTER FROM SHARE LIVERPOOL.

Premier League Liverpool
comment on the article

E-mail i recieved had this letter that has been forwarded to G & H. Let's hope it helps towards getting rid of these two clowns.

Dear George & Tom

We understand you have decided to relinquish your ownership of Liverpool FC and are actively looking for a buyer.

Along with the vast majority of Liverpool fans, we agree with your decision to withdraw. We would like to buy the club on behalf of the fans, and invite you to sit down with us to agree a deal. We are confident that if you’re willing to sell to us for a fair price, we would have sufficient backing (either from the fans alone, or with a suitable partner).

As you may know, ShareLiverpoolFC is an IPS – effectively a ‘Co-operative’ – owned by single shareholding members (not unlike the Green Bay Packers). We are not motivated by making a profit from the commercial exploitation of Liverpool FC; all income would be directed towards the benefit of the Club and the team itself. We want the Club we love run solely in the best interests of a successful team, the fans and the community.

We believe we represent a real opportunity for both of you to bring to an end a troubled period of ownership; an ‘exit strategy’ which would lead to admiration and respect from many. Doing the honourable thing and selling the club to the fans would return it to the values that made it the most successful football club in England and one of the best supported clubs in the world.

If necessary, we will come in with a partner. As you are no doubt now aware, the stewardship of a club like Liverpool cannot be separated from the interests of its fans and its community, and anyone thinking of bidding for the club will realise that the backing of the fans is essential to ensuring a harmonious and successful club.

There is now a growing feeling across the sport, from FIFA and UEFA to the FA, and from the grassroots upwards, and even from our own government, that big clubs are in real danger of losing touch with their audience. You could help reverse this trend.

We’d also like you to be able to leave with dignity. George, in an interview last March, you said, “Our goal from the beginning was to add….to the lustre (of Liverpool FC)…”.

At this point you can only achieve this by doing the right thing – and that is to offer the club to the fans.

Come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely

ShareLiverpoolFC

its a reat idea, unless you want your football club run by big business to use it for profit for personal unknown ends, that have nothing to do with the club, instead of by the fans where any profits are used for the good of the club only.
It has been proven to work well already, so that's not a reason to oppose the idea.

I'm dubious about the whole thing.

Don't get me wrong, though, as i'd love it if our fans own our club. It would be great!

But i have concerns. If the fans do take over the club, do they have the funds to consistently pay wages? Do they have the funds to complete the new stadium? Do they have enough funds to be spending £30m+ on each new player? In the current economic climate, i think it would be a bad idea for them to take over now, as i don't think the funds would be there to take the club forward.

That's why i think we should sell to DIC, as they have billions and billions behind them which they can use to bankroll the club. The credit crunch won't affect them like it will people in this country. Maybe let DIC take over, and the fans complete their buyout when our economy stabilises??

I don't know if any of that made sense! I could be completely wrong in what i say. But i'm just concerned for the future of my club if this plan goes through right now.

Are Hicks and Gillett really doing such a bad job? Rafa is in negotiations for a new contract, we're joint top of the EPL and the CL tables, our players are playing well, things are pretty good right now. I'm not saying i agree with what Hicks and Gillett are doing (taking out loans against the club etc), but are they really that bad overall?? Seems to me as though we forget about them when we're winning, but as soon as we start losing we blame them.

"To those questioning the ability to raise money in a fan-owned sysytem: Look at Real Madrid and Barcelona. Two of the richest clubs in the world, able to purchase players at prices beyond what most premier league clubs can (excluding Chelsea), never worries about loan debt, etc. "

Erm, i thought Real Madrid were famed for spending beyond their means, and being in 100's of millions of debt from some of the biggest banks around??

Now is as good a time as any to buy a football club provided Gillett and Hicks are feeling the pressure. Probably need to wait a little while for the credit crunch to hit football.
The problem is there will never be sufficient numbers of fans willing to commit sufficient money to the deal. £5,000 is way beyond 80% to 90% of fans slush funds these days.

lets make this clear. real madrid are not a good example of a well run fan club. the only reason they are still around is because the government brought their training ground for oodles and oodles of money.

barcelona model i more like the look of. but we must be wary. 500mill may be enough to get the club, but wages, stadium costs etc have to be paid too. a very good new business model is required.

If memory serves, Ebbs Fleet UTD recently became owned by the fans, each paying £35ish for a share. Using this as an example, they are actually performing very well in their respective league.

I know the difference between these 2 teams is a million miles apart but in theory, it can work.
I just dont think i want my team as a guinea pig for this new venture.

What happens if it goes wrong, there will not be a millionaire/billionaire to bale us out of any financial trouble.

There is so much money in football now a days that rich buisness men and groups are inevitably attracted to it. Because of this, a fan based owners simply cant compete with other clubs. You may say that Real and Barca have this system, but its already been shown that RM are in debt and the reason Barca can do it is beacuse of their fantastically good academy. Finally, with the amount each player is now earning almost all the ticket and Tv revenue is spent on the wages of all the staff abd players.
Its a nice idea, but if it happens you will struggle to buy another Torres or Gerrard

Some of you are using the Real and Barca example.

This is flawed as this only works because they appoint a new President every few years who injects a load of money.

ShareLFC have not suggested they will do this, nor are there any potential millionaires who have suggested they want to waste £50M of their own money to be removed after 2 years.

Someone else mentioned there german clubs.

Yes it works there because they all do it, but Bayern Munich steamroller the league almost every year because they have more money, and no-one can catch them up, and the german league is the weakest of the big leagues, how often to German teams do well in Europe?

Is that where you want Liverpool to be.

This is a terrible idea, and I pray it will never happen.
