Andy Murray has been outclassed in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters by a brutal display from Nikolay Davydenko today. Murray struggled to keep up with the Russian from game one as the world number five hit 33 winners to Murray's seven. Murray's season ends with this defeat, and will be back in action at the beginning of 2009.

Potro,

It is unfair and injust to compare Murray to Nadal and Djokovic for they are power players who developed the skill to push back players with their force early in their careers. Murray is a more similar player to Federer or to Simon. Fed did not win his first slam until he was 23, two years older than Murray is now. Simon has only become a world beating player in the last couple of months and with a change of coach. Murray will improve faster than both Nadal and Djo in next few years, I believe.

To UltimateBanthu: I would say that it is irrelevant to write the number of games the top 3 have played, he was playing Davy who has played far less, and had 1 more day's rest, that was the point. Djo and Simon both had body issues in that match, Djo had cramps despite his day off and Simon a neck complaint. In fact all the top players have cited fatigue come the close season. It was just a reason why these two players were not at an even keel, that is all that is being said. Murray said at the start of the competition that he was fatigued, as many of the top players. In fact, I'm sorry, lets look at all the top 4 in detail: Nadal, tendinitis, Federer bad back, Djo who has had a poor last couple of months so played less cramps up and Murray struggles with his fitness. Draw your own conclusions.

The other criticism from Ultimate was that Murray had said that the win against Fed was as important to him as winning the whole competition and he found this arrogant. I do not believe that this is a comment meant to make a dig at the Masters' Cup, Shanghai or the other players in the competition but was just his way of explaining why he fought so hard for what he could have considered a dead rubber.

I see Potro was coming out with more bile yesterday.
Claiming he is a nice person!!!
I don't see how anyone who is so blatantly racist against the Scots can claim to be a nice person!!!!

Potro reminds me of a certain german person nearly 60 years ago.

Yeah the guy obviously has a problem, his negativity is quite disturbing. Probably best to ignore it.

looking at the first 5 months of the year for murray,i can see him near enough doubling his tally as his hard court game is as good as anybodys, his clay court will vastly improve with his improved fitness, serve and big groundstrokes,i would go as far as saying i can see djokovic, nadal, simon and murray in the semis for the french open

"Not nasty. Just dislike Murray. Not keen on Scots in general."
"Let's see what the grotty Scot does at the start of the season when everone is is fresh."

"...so what gives you the right to judge me? Get a life, anorak-features."

What gives people the right to judge you? By making comments like that for a start. That's how life works!

Sorry, I know he's a troll, but honestly!

Ronneh, he'll deny it forever but I've got him nailed on as English...somewhere in the archives he's got himself down as French who has lived in the UK but now lives in Spain. He'll also try and get the sympathy vote by saying he was bullied by Scots.

Whatever he's just a bigoted WUM who is obviously compensating for something.
