It's not ideal, but it's enough

Champions League Liverpool

After another performance with plenty of negatives to crease out the positives, Liverpool shouldn't be disheartened with this display.

Obviously the most important thing, especially in the Champions' League, is the result. Yet again we kept at it, and we got a point. Qualification is very close now, hopefully as group winners. But once we get to the knockout stages we know we can beat anybody.

Now, the performance. Liverpool did show a frustrating lack of bite in front of goal, with Gerrard, Agger and Keane all perhaps being expected to do better with their chances. However, that they were creating the chances is a very positive thing. Liverpool controlled possession and unlike Chelsea (I know, who?) at Stamford Bridge, they actually managed to take their chances. When Torres comes back, we'll be scoring them so that's a big bonus.

On the subject of the penalty itself, I think it's been said before that there were two dead certs before that, which if they had been given would have definitely given us a greater chance of a win. People are saying Gerrard dived but then they would say that. Man U, Everton, Chelsea, etc. all harbour a grudge against the man who has proved to be their undoing several times.

ALSO, John Arne Riise gave a little tough love to Abramovich United. To all those who whistled him, who's laughing now.

:-D :-D

Onwards and upwards

Ok why remove my post? We put up with so much rubbish about Ronaldo and accusations against him and yet a comment on Gerrard gets moderated? Nonsense.

Same with me, selective moderating I feel.

See that's the trouble & you're obviously missing the point by saying anyone else would have done it. 10-15 years ago nobody did it, then we get a large influx of foreign players & now it's the norm for players to dive because they've always done it & the English players are now saying "it's ok & can you teach me how to do it", instead of saying "Stop doing that cause we don't do it in this country." It's ruining the Prem & Gerrard is now as bad as anybody at doing it. I've noticed that ever since he dived against Sheffield United over two years ago, that he does it rather a lot. I'd now rather we picked Lampard for England just because he doesn't disgrace himself the way Gerrard does.

It was a soft penalty to give, i admit, but thats the ref's fault - not Gerrard's. Are people actually saying that no one tries to con the ref???
You obviously dont play football or just dont pay attention, everybody is trying to con the ref and get what they can - that is part of football and what adds to the uncertainty.
From appealing for throwins that arent yours, goal keepers pretending they've been obstructed and winning free kicks (etc etc) - whats the difference?!?! Every team does it - fact! So please dont get on your high horses, you're just jealous and frustrated with the way our season has gone so far.

Long may it continue....

I would hardly call about three times in two years "rather a lot". After all, Ronaldo does that in one game.

Incidentally, I notice that all those who were queueing up to give Gerrard stick have been very quiet on Ronaldo last night. He is, undoubtedly, the master.

I remember the two games v Sheffield United & the Champions League final in particular & on talksport last night someone mentioned the Everton game from last season.
I live on merseyside & a lot of my pals are Liverpool fans so I see quite a few games & he dives in practically every one & even they have started to admit it. I agree Ronaldo's every bit as bad, but he's Portuguese so I expect no better from him. Gerrard's English - he should know better & set an example.

He dives in what? Practically every one? The ones you mentioned where televised. Like I said before, they are soft contacts to go over from but nonetheless they are contacts that go on to happen as he is on the move. Somethign else I said again, when you're in a precarious situation like in the box then you have made the decision as to whether it is necessary to make contact or to wait longer to make the crucial interception.

Take Mikel against Roma for the third goal. Gave the ball away but nonetheless kept up with Vucinic. then what did he do? Vicinic then felt he couldn't shake off Mikel with pace so he paused briefly, only for Mikel to feel he has to make up for losing the ball in the first place, Chelsea are 2-0 down, went in rashly to quickly get the ball. Ended up on the ground, no control on the ball, Vicinic has, free to go with the ball, went on to score.

Make the challenge but make the contact with the ball, if you really sense a player will dive. JLloyd Samuel did so, unfairly penalised and a Man Utd fan said that Ronaldo even had the guts to not celebrate the decision. Whoop-de-do, the penalty decision wasnt going to be reversed by anything at that stage, so why credit Ronaldo?

OK, the CL final, against Sheff Utd, against Everton last season. Is that it?? How about against Man Utd this season? In the 2006 FA Cup final? Or the 2007 CL final? The Marseille tie away? Against Boro at Anfield? Spurs away? I tell you, if there is a lead to protest at Gerrard, it would be based on very very little games, particularly in comparison to others I would heavily mention.

I responsed to your comment and had my post removed as well, it was the well-said one from which you mentioned about me being a politician (!!). I know it was because your comment was copied and pasted in it but didnt feel you said anything untoward.
