I think it id for the best that he has left i think this situation is just like the situation at spurs with the players low on morale. They need a manager thats gunna come in lift morale and give the players the belief back. im a a leeds fan and id like to say good luck to carlilse they are a top club

Paul Simpson anyone?

Abbott would od it for me, if he can prove himself in the next 6 matches.

Lets get behind Gregg and the team!

At last! Feel sympathy for the man up to a point but we seemed certain for promotion last season and blew it at the last and that wasn't the fault of the players. Would like to see a young, dynamic manager with real leadership qualities, but hey, this is Carlisle United.

Greg Abbott's motivation is questional at best from what I am reading. He has inherited the same team and you still have your injuries.
I guess Abbott got the top job, his way, which is probably what he always wanted.
I cannot see him do any better than Mr Ward, for whom I have a lot of respect for.

I feel he had to go: 1 point in 30 and only about 26 in 90 (or whatever the exact figure is)is not good enough and it seemed to have got to the stage where he didn't have any idea, or enough of the players "with him".
I don't know what his overall track record in management is like (except that he was at Cheltenham!), though nothing outstanding seems to jump out.

I think he was on an uphill battle with the Carlisle fans from the outset , as I doubt many truely felt he was the right man for us, aprtly because he came from Cheltenham. Letting slip automatic promotion last season left massive question marks over him that have return in a big way with the latest ten game, 1 point run.

I wish him well as he did seem to be a truely decent man who, on a number of occasions, took dissapointments well and refused to rant on about Refs etc. Unfortunately for him, and for us, he couldn't get decent results to match his decency.

Now it will be interesting to see if Greg Abbott can turn it around. He did quite well the previous few games he was in charge but he has been there with Ward all this time, so that begs a big question of him: was he not trying to get things sorted with Ward? If so, why will it be different now. I hope he can do it and he's got a good chance to make an emphatic start against Grays Athletic on Saturday. Wembley here we come.

I feel that the pressure on the manager, whether it had been Ward or anyone else at the start of the season was too much for a club of Carlisle's stature. Look at how Doncaster and Nottingham Forest are struggling in the Championship; with the current run, we would have been relegated by Christmas had we gone up. A couple of seasons to stabilise in League One is the best advice. Why all the talk about a promotion push when we're one point outside of the relegation zone?!?

Hi C.Hucker. I believe you may be missing the point here, maybe the gang of 4 are admitting that John Ward was brought in for the wrong reasons and was simply NOT the man for our club.
He is clearly a very decent human being, and I am not being patronising, but he was totally the wrong type of manager to push CUFC onward and UPWARD.
Greg Abbott is his own man and we must give him a real chance to prove that.Let us all hope that he can galvanise the players and kick a*** when necessary, but also support them when necessary.
I believe that JW started to loose the players when he did not appeal David Raven's red card which was totally unjustified and showed me that the manager was not supporting his squad, and you know what they say ....you get back what you give out.

Hi Worcester Blue, what is this with Fred Story getting us a good new man, for goodness sake he was the man who landed us with John Ward because he knew that JW would do as he was told and not even try to spend any of Fred's money exactly as he had been doing at Cheltenham.
Neil McDonald was very foolish but was a far better footballing manager and had us playing far better football. My great hope is that Gregg Abbott will have learned from Neil and can bring back football played on the ground and not in the air where the tall centre backs swallow up our crosses 99% of the time.
