Lets hope the fight lives up to the hype. Got a feeling it won't.

I never understand this criticism: if what you say is true (it isn't) and Calzaghe only slaps his opponents, surely that makes his unbeaten record even MORE impressive if anything? I'd like to see what he could do if he threw punches instead!

What is the objective of boxing? Surely it is to outbox your opponent and make sure you get a tick in the "W" box and not the "L" box. That is exactly what Calzaghe has done all his career. The objective is not to throw one massive punch like some fairground machine. Well, if it is watch Lacey instead of Calzaghe!!

ok, i was a bit harsh and simplistic with my statment. i am only a casual boxing fan but i have never rated calzaghe and the the hype surrounding him annoys. i just dont think he is any special

Reggie 48 hours Hammond.

So he's beaten, Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins, and maybe and likely on Saturday night one of my favourite boxers of all time Roy Jones Junior.
Jesus man, How special do you want a guy to be??.

reggie-hammond: That's fair enough, but you need to remember that hype can be negative as well. Even as a proud Welshie and massive Calzaghe fan I've seen people ridiculously overhype the guy (some joker told me he's better than Ali!) but this causes other people to react against it and look for reasons to bad-mouth him.

The truth is somewhere in between: he's no Sugar Ray Leonard but he's not gone 45 professional fights unbeaten for nothing; a record like that takes unbelievable talent and consistency. The hype isn't Calzaghe's fault so why hate him for it?

Reggie Hammond:

You can only beat what gets put in front of you - and JC has.
45 times so far...

I'm a Calzaghe fan. I think he's been great for British boxing and you're all right, he has only beaten what's been put in front of him, and well too. He's one of the main fighters that initally got me interested in boxing.

However, I don't agree that his record (in terms of fighters fought) is anything special. The win against Kessler was fantastic and the Lacy win wasn't bad either. He did beat Hopkins, however unconvincingly but Jones Jr. is right, this fight should of happened at least 5 years ago. You can't tell me that a win on Saturday would be on par than a win over a younger Jones Jr. who had yet to be beaten and was (and still is, rightly so) considered one of the finest fighters over the past decade and a half.

I also think that far too much has been made about his whole 'undefeated' record. Marciano's is legendary because he fought until he had enough, and then retired. He didn't go on about he was undefeated and to be honest, it all gets repetetive and annoying after a while. You can learn so much from a loss and besides, a loss to a great fighter in a classic fight is better than ducking that bout and fighting some unheralded fighter. Look at De La Hoya's record for example. He has lost 5 times, but he has fought the best out there and gained so much respect from his fights, win or lose.

In simple terms, Joe didn't break off from Warren anywhere near early enough.

I just want this fight to be half as good as it's been hyped up to be.
