The million dollar question

Great qualifying session, well done to Felipe but things aren't so bad for Hamilton as long as Kovi can block Alonso and he avoids Raikkonen at the start and the Trulli train during the race he'll be ok. Anyway here's what Ron Dennis had to say:

"Let's put it this way: I think Massa will be stopping very, very early and that's a high risk strategy. It doesn't provide for safety car or weather conditions, you know, we looked at all the variables, we fully appreciate that we have some degree of risk in regards of first corner or first lap accidents but to revert to a strategy that light is ... has a higher level of risk.

"Going light introduces a very difficult situation with safety car and if there is any sort of weather interruption in the first part of the race, because you are finished if you are super light. You need to have the ability to stretch your window."
Ron Dennis, McLaren, speaking to German broadcaster Premiere

So is Hamilton heavy in anticipation of the rain, have Mclaren reverted to a wet setup for Q3 like they did in Monaco or did he struggle with the fuel on board?

The body language in the Mclaren garage didn't look particluary worried, i think there hoping for rain because they will struggle to do a stint on the softs and post competitive lap times. It is also interesting that the two teams,Toyota and Ferrari, who are softest on their tyres are doing so well at Interlagos.

So it's true what they say about British people - obsessed with talking about the weather.

I bet Hamilton is a few litres heavier on fuel and would not be surprised to see him heading the pack by lap 12. If Kovy can protect him from Alonso in the first few corners I reckon he could be on to a winner.

A couple of people have responded to an earlier comment where I question either of the potential championship winners as worthy.

I believe there is three stages a driver has to go through. Become a great driver, then a great race and then a great champion.

I consider Hamilton and Massa both capable of great drives however, I wouldn't call either a great racer. Without achieving this racing skill they can't be great champions.

What I mean by great racer is the ability to deal with every track, every weather condition, every race situation, use wit and quick thinking, have perfect timing and make the best decisions. Can you honestly say either Hamilton or Massa yet have these talents. Please notice I have said "yet".

We are in a situation where a driver who smashed into the back of a rival in the pits and another who span of 5 times in one race could be crowned champion. To put that into perspective imagine what your reaction would be to those incidents if it was Takumi Sato. You wouldn't be calling him a great racer or potential champion would you?
