Tottenham reveal new ground plan

comment on the article

The feel-good factor among Tottenham fans following last night's epic draw at Arsenal is likely to have been upped a few notches this morning.

The club has confirmed its intention to build a new 60,000-capacity stadium near their current White Hart Lane ground.

Should the plans turn into reality, Spurs will have the infrastructure to compete with the Premier League's top teams.

As well as the new Stadium, the Northumberland Development Project will include leisure facilities, public space and housing.

"The scheme includes the current site and adjoining land, with the stadium sited to the north of the existing one," said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Spurs have also announced their financial results to the end of June 2008 and turnover is up 11%, while the building of a new training centre is expected to start next year.

Revenue is up from £103m to £114.8m with net debt of £14.6m though that figure includes property acquisitions.

Spurs have season ticket waiting list of about 22,000 and the new stadium plans will be music to the ears of those fans.

What is your reaction to the news? Do you think the stadium will be on time and to budget in the current economic climate? Is this what Spurs need to enable them to compete with the big four on and off the pitch?

Sorry but could someone tell me how Spurs are going to afford it? With no billionaire signing the cheques, with no revenue from the Champions League for the foreseeable future, how will you service the huge debt?

Arsenal can only just afford the Emirates and we've got much bigger revenue and the old site to sell. Levy mentions that Spurs have put aside £44 so far, but that's a long way from the £300m you'll need for a 60,000 plus capacity.

Or is the stadium going to be built in cloud cuckoo land?

Was it not Fabregas who claimed Spurs would struggle to beat Arsenal ladies, just before failing to beat them? Pure arrogance, and its probably going to end up with yet ANOTHER trophyless season at the Emirates.

Its true... I think Arsenal need to start practicing against their ladies team... maybe they would pick up a few tips on how to win things

Seriously folks, that game was spectacular to watch, perfect advert for the premier league. If Spurs could put in that same endeavour, and mainly that belief for the rest of the season, then like us Toonies they could finish around tenth. We played like that against Man. city after going one nil down to a wrongly called penalty, and losing a key player. And you have more talented players than us. Moments like that restore your pride and passion for your club in one swift swoop, good luck Spurs
