PNG vs New Zealand

World Cup Papua New Guinea
comment on the article

Can the Kumuls beat New Zealand on Saturday ? The Kiwis are missing Matai for this match and Manu, the only try-scorer against Australia, is out of the World Cup. After almost shocking England the Kumuls must fancy their chances.

SteeRhino1988,

I wasn't assuming anything, all I was saying is that if N-Z happen to lose to PNG they will be all out to win against ENG. regardless if OZ win or lose against the poms. ok

I might put a cheeky £5 on PNG over NZ. If they can close down the spaces out wide their pack should at least have parity. Am I the only one who thought while Australia's backs look a class apart their pack looks like it could be there for the taking?

Teams like PNG always raise their games against England/Gb, then have a drop in standards when they play their next game. Happens in all sports.

I think it's cos everyone wants to beat England more than anyone else, maybe for historical reasons.

I can't see PNG dropping their standards against New Zealand as they know a defeat probably means the end of their tournament with only Australia to play. Stanley Gene will have the PNG team pumped up for this one.

NZ will win because they've no points on the board and want to get through at least in 3rd place. But if PNG win and NZ beat England next week (assuming England lose to Aus) there'll be some clenched cheeks to see who gets through on points difference.

I would love PNG to win but I reckon it will be:

NZ 32 PNG 16

If PNG beat NZ and NZ beat ENG then it will come down to who Australia beats heaviest to go out

Paddy,

I'm not sure if you are taking the mickey or not, in re; to your question, but the answer is, the team that finishes bottom of the group between OZ, ENG, N-Z and PNG goes home early on "for-n-against" average. ok

Wasnt asking a question southsydney, I was expressing my thoughts.

If Australia and PNG win on Sat, then next weekend Aus and NZ win then Aus will have 6 points the rest 2. PD will come into play with the result againt the Aussies probably causing the biggest swing. I'd be very surprised if the team the Aussies got their biggest win against didnt go out (Thats if it did finish 6, 2, 2, 2,

Yes that would bring it down to the calculator to work out the team that missus out.

But wouldn't it make next weeks game between Eng-n-NZ interesting if indeed PNG beat N-Z and OZ beat ENG. whistlewhistle
