Tennis folk have got Murray in for the sports personality award, Olympic buffs have got a fair few. Lewis Hamilton seems a good bet if he wins the F1 title. Theo Walcott gets a shout for his Hat-trick surely!

Whats everyone think?

What about young sports personality?

Being a welshman shout for Rambo for the Young welshman of the year.

Personally my votes with Murray I think he's had an outstanding year and a deserving candidate...

I have my fingers crossed that Becky Adlington doesn't win... I for one have had enough of her and her bloomin shoes!

The top 10 contenders for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award have been named.

The list features Olympic heroes swimmer Rebecca Adlington, and cycling champions Nicole Cooke, Chris Hoy, Rebecca Romero and Bradley Wiggins.

Fellow Beijing winners sailor Ben Ainslie and 400m gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu also make the list.

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, boxer Joe Calzaghe and British tennis number one Andy Murray make up the 10.

The other awards to be presented on the night will include:

- Team of the Year

- Coach of the Year

- Overseas Personality

- Young Personality

- Helen Rollason Award

- Unsung Hero Award

- Lifetime Achievement

There's no point having 10 nameson the shortlist for me - theres only 2 real serious candidates and they are Andy Murray and Lewis Hamilton. These two are the only ones who have done anything consistently over the course of the year, and afterall, its sports personality of the YEAR, not just the month of August.

That's absolutely right - after all, the likes of Chris Hoy and Nicole Cooke achieved nothing apart from during the month of August.

good point singingHannahJ - furthermore, Hoy is even less deserving than Cooke to be on the list because his races didn't last very long!!

Hannah, come on, don't let the lack of facts stop some people from having an opinion. After all, cyclist/sailors and athletes hibernate for 11 months of the year, I'm just suprised they could stay up for a fortnight in order to compete in Beijing.

That's settled it. It must be Hoy. I'd never realised before that he won his world championship golds when sleeping. What an athlete!!

Well, it can't be Nicole Cooke as she won something in September as well as August.

Also, it can't really be a serious sport if they allow you to drink and eat while you're competing - can it?

Oh good God no. Tantamount to cheating I'd say.

Mind you, Lewis H has that bottle/straw thingy attached to his helmet, and who's to say that he doesn't also pack a banana and a couple of Hobnobs in with him when he settles into his cockpit...

And...thinking about it, those tennis players are ALWAYS eating and drinking!!!
