Rugby League World Cup: Ireland v Tonga

International
comment on the article

G'day,
It's match number four of the Rugby League World Cup and we're off to the Sydney surburb of Parramatta to see Ireland take on a very physical Tonga side.

The Tongans are without Fuifui Moimoi and Taniela Tuiaki, who are still fighting their ongoing ineligibility after playing for New Zealand in last year's Test series against England, but still boast 15 players from the NRL, along with two from the Super League.

Ireland - led by Wakefield's Scott Grix - face a daunting prospect, especially in the balmy Sydney evening heat, but assistant Terry O'Connor is confident of a solid performance.

Let us know your thoughts about the match.

What do people make of the Irish anthem being sung in Gaelic? I don't remember this happening before!

Still can't get over that Tonga winger gettin @ Blanch after the winnin try.

Considerin Blanch had put 3 past him wouldn't be too happy. A little bit more patience from Irelaqnd would have seen them beat a really over aggresive ill disciplined Tingan side.

"amhran na bhfiann" is the irish national anthem and it is "as gaeilge"........ not sure about rugby league but in rugby union the anthem is played aswell as "irelands call" which is in english and is played because of players being from both the republic and up north

The Irish ran out of luck but put up a brave show, the Tongans really got to Mr Ganson but he was mostly right to penalise them, however Platt underlined for me why the Bulls have struggled, not a top full back any high ball and its less than 50/50 he will take it and his urgency around the in goal area is not good, compare that to Webb or Wellens and you would back them to take the high ball or clear the in goal area from being in good position and what about that giant 40/20, jogging across the park in that situation is schoolboy stuff, still what a cracking game.

Great game.
What a pity these World Cup matches are not given the true publicity they deserve.

Ireland lost the game because of Platt.
