What a shambles this club v Country row as turned into, You had D. Moffet trying to smoke them out of the WRU and you had the WRU on the phone links to the court rooms,More money wasted on lawyers again.

This problem with player contracts should never have reached this point, why is it the last few weeks this has reared its ugly head just before key autumn internationals.

Everyone seems to be pointing to David Moffet as the cause of the problem, how daft are people, moffet left some years ago and in the meantime we have had two Chief Executives who were in a position to sort this out.

The court rooms should have been the last resort after dialogue, this is a quick fix to save face for the WRU, do you think the regions are doing cartwheels over this, all its done is driven a wedge between regions and country.

These players are assets of the regions and if there are injuries in the Ai i can see the courts getting busy, imagine someone borrowing you're lovely new car and bringing it back all dented and scratched, and telling you go and claim on you're own insurance and walk away.

The reason Moffet is there is because you hire the best when you are in a dispute to sort it out, all he wanted to do is set up some form of communication with the WRU, is that a crime, no, i call it a way forward.

Lets get out of the blame and counter blame culture and sit around a table and get a settlement once and for all, to benefit the whole of Welsh Rugby.

It makes no difference who is doing the bargaining, providing the document produced works for both parties, the reason Moffet is not liked is beacause he gets things done at all costs not bury his head in the sand like the WRU.

I agree, but if there was no players there, who could they sponsor.the players are the pawns in this, so its down to the WRU to sort it out.

Going on his recent comments, I think the regions will live to regret installing Moffett as the leader of the RRW.

His-unprofessional hostile comments are clear indication he's in there to settle some type of old score.

There are a number of people who could have taken that role and its fallen with him. Big trouble for everyone in Welsh rugby.

Moffats Ghost,
Unfortunately the WRU under Moffat and since have managed to get themselves into a predicament amounting to MILLIONS in debt. As you're correct in saying that income is made up of largely ticket sales to internationals, this is money that doesn't all get divvied to the regions, but they don't do too bad. The regions like evry other rugby club in Wales have their affiliation to the WRU, and in doing so have agreed to abide by their bidding. The problems start when 'has been' WRU bosses like Moffat wade in and try to make a name for themselves. Wales the national side are a national treasure in the respect of winning 2 GSs in the last 4 years. The regions don't seem to want to embrace the possibilities that presents. The players are first and foremost members of clubs from grass roots up to WP (run by WRU) and then if good enough represent their regions and paid higher rates by the regions (by the regions' choice) because those regions are invited to self fund to a degree by seeking large sponsorship and taking gate monies.
With this in mind, the WRU are the governing body for rugby in Wales, and should have first call on when and how the players are made available to represent country first, region second, club third. Its how it works in Ireland with the IRFU, and yes it gets political from time to time, but we never have trouble getting players off for national camp.

Just wish our results were better, but fingers crossed.

The underlying problem is too much money involved. Same happened to the RFU, their problems are only just coming to an end, and a robust financial plan should see them right. Scotland also, big debts, poor management of players. The only way is to allow the union full control, and have an independant players union who consult only with the WRU. This is not what Moffat is doing. Centrally run rugby is the answer, the celtic nations were all good at it until big money got involved. Then little men with pound signs in their eyes get too big for their boots.
If its not sorted, Gatland will move on next year after the lions tour and Edwards will follow, probably to England.

As a supporter, your support should go country, region, then club.

I don't think its the end of the World, England had big wrangles before getting their agreement through.

This is a proccess and we have to go through it, call it an evolution.

Remember when Moffet trimmed the clubs down from 9 to 5 people were diving through windows and jumping off cliffs, they were screaming on here and lambasting moffet.

But whats really happened, its proven to be right and moffet has been vindicated, he came up with a formula and drove it through kicking and screaming, and also remember Moffet helped set up the Magners league, again he was proven right, its turning out to be the cream of leagues in the northern hemisphere.

So Moffet could come up with a plan for the regions and Unions, whats wrong with that, he may have a brainwave to move us forward further, moffets not a bad guy, he is clever and intelligent, and he has a soft spot for Welsh Rugby.

But i am sure this is all a storm in a tea cup.

Wow, what a triumph of blind love over reality from Moffet's Mini-me!

The man's possibly the most divisive 'personality' ever in Welsh rugby.

Yeh! Without him we'd have had a team in Llanelli sponsored by some millionaire from London, a team in Neath or Swansea sponsored by someone who could 'put up' the money, a team in Cardiff, sponsored by someone with more money than pies, a team in Newport - sorry Gwent - sponsored by Mr B and a team in Bridgend or Pontypridd sponsored by "Sh! you know who". Moffett made all the difference - Mr B left Newport and they're not doing as well and the team sponsored by "Sh! you know who" plays thirteen-a-side rugby. Thank the Lord for Moffet

mickeyphill is a very small minded person. Why should comments not be made by an Englishman about the state of the Welsh game. It's no different than comments being made by a New Zealander! All your comments on these boards are snide and not within the spirit of the game about which you seem to profess so much knowledge

Surely the regions were set up in the first place, to ensure that the International side were provided with more competetive players, not the other way round.

Hats off to Dai Young, who has shown the others the way, by intending not to select his internationals, so that they can maximise their prep to face the Boks in a red jersey, rather than a blue one against Bath.
