Man United refs comments

Anybody read that so called referee's comments in today's media. 'The fact that no Celtic player complained about the offside goals proves it was close'. This is infuriating on a number of level's. First of all, it means nothing that the Celtic players did not shout and scream at the ref. It doesn't make those decisions any more valid.
Secondly, how can referee's and governing bodies insist dissent and abusing referee's is stopped and then base decisions on how much a team complains. In my opinion shouting and screaming at at a referee is never ok. Clubs should not reccieve any better treatment if they shout and scream more.
Thirdly, it is not accurate to say for definate that Man U would have won anyway. The first two goals completely changed the pattern and feeling of the game. If it gets to 60 mins 0-0 it's impossible to say for certain what will happen.
To hear that referee say that is a disgrace and UEFA should be censuring him in some way.

The official is quoted as saying that 'the lack of any Celtic player complaining demonstrates that the decisions were very close'. If that is accurate then in my opinion it doesn't matter in what context he said it he is suggesting that the lack of protest means at that anyone could have made that mistake.
It is a positive thing that he has admitted to the mistake yes. But that doesn't excuse what in my opinion was favourable refereeing for the richer 'more powerful' club.

Well if the ref and linesmen got all the decisions correct we would still have lost, the fact of the matter is, we never had the ball in the back of the net, Man U did! There is no shame in losing to the European champions, so let it go, we can still to well in europe if we concentrate on our remaining games, HAIL HAIL! MON THE HOOPS!

Fraserbhoy,
I actually couldn't disagree more. When United were handed a two goal head start it totally changed the complextion of the game. Before United got the their first goal they were already starting to panic. Top level football along with most other sports is mostly mental. After United got their free goals they relaxed and only then started to play well. I wish so many Celtic fans would stop being so subserviant about this.
Yes United are a better team but that doesn't mean you can't get a result against them.

Excellent points Bluto1978.

I would still say Man U would have very likely still won BUT we would have kept our heads up and trying if it was only 1-0.

BUT too many if this and that. Time to move on.

The ref's were told before the game to give any 50-50 decisions to Berbatov because if they didn't he would become sulk-atov?
He even forgot for a moment when he was subbed that he was at United because he started to sulk and then seen the grim face of Sir Alex staring at him from the dugout, enough said.

The comment from the ref relating to it being no consolation that ManU would have won anyway, is ludicrous, the snactamonios twit! What did Boruc have to do before the first goal, nothing!! VanDerSar was the busiest keeper, Yes Celtic didn't have as much as the ball as ManU but that is the case when you are playing a retreating defence game away from home.
The goals changed the game, 0-0 at half time would have changed the way the game was played in the second half, Celtic were geared for quick breakaways but their confidence was shaken which allowed ManU to take advantage after two unlucky decisions that went against them.
I would also have given the 3rd goal as offside when Tevez ran across the box in an offside position, the ball nearly hit him in the middle of the box and if that is not interfering with play affecting the keepers decision I don't know what is.

Bluto1978 Totally agree with the exception of United are a better team. ManU are a very good team, so are Celtic. We can beat anyone when firing on all cylinders.
On another angle, give us 35 million for nothing every year and we will buy the goal scorers. Celtic need another two defenders and 2 world class forwards, Michael Owen and Drogba would make the celtic teama different proposition. Midfield we could compete with anyone. Once big Kennedy is back with us (fully fit) then we only need one defender.

As a Manchester United fan, this article is spot on. You really can't say a team would have won the game anyway, just because they scored another legitimate goal later on after they already had the lead from a dodgy goal.

On the other side, I do think it's a good thing when referees openly admit making mistakes - they're only human after all. However, saying that the Celtic players didn't protest and that Man Utd would have gone on to win the game anyway was not helpful.
