The IPL has had its first true impact on Test cricket. The 2009 Sri Lanka tour of England has been postponed after the SL players were allowed to honour their IPL contracts

I wouldn’t just apologise now fluffy, but I do have to ask this question …….. then do you think when SL or India play Zimbabwe that we don’t care what is going on in Zimbabwe?

And we are going there next month!

I can't see how the Sri Lankans can get away with this sort of 'adjustment', only to honour a local league in India

-------------

Idiotic statement, the IPL is a World leage in everything but name, it is bigger than the world cup already.

As a WIndies fan living in England, I don't know how to greet this news that the West Indies will be touring England in 2009....

They were scheduled to visit England in 2010, to play four Tests. Now, will this series be scrapped, because the WI will play just two Tests in 2009?

Doesn't sound like a good deal to the Caribbean side, if that's the case....

Ok Picture this!

Srilanka was not supposed to play a test at that time. The vacant slot arrived as Zimbabwe was forced to withdraw due to political reasons. Where as srilankan players signed contract with IPL for 3 years as their board allowed them to do so. Because England came into picture suddenly the whole world particularly British Media goes hooh haah about IPL and its effect.

What would english players have done if they were is such situation? Wouldnt the board played it differently?

Pure Hypocrisy!

I'm sick and tired of this attitude. It was England who changed their position the Sri Lankans were asked to fill in for the Zimbabweans. The board agreed to this without realising twelve of their players were already contracted to play in the ipl or icl. Sri Lanka could still send a side but it would have none of their top players in it so would there really be any point.

Hey shivfan

of course they won't scrap WIs 2010 England tour, it'll just create the same situation England have now with no one to play in that summer.

I'm wondering what the point of selecting WI over SL would be though. Surely WI have players signed to IPL as well and they'll only be sending a reduced team too.

I would like to point out that test match tours at generally set out over 18 months in advance of them taking place. The Sri Lankan players had organised their personal schedule around previously arranged and organised tours. England dumped Zimbabwe for political reasons, not sporting ones, and then 'invited' the Sri Lankan team to tour, as an after thought. I wonder, if England had been offered a similar tour, whilst their players had IPL/ICL contracts, would the Englishman be upset....I bet they would!

SLkockneyred

Would the SL stand for Sri Lanka by any chance?

And can you explain the use of inverted commas for the word 'invited' please? They were either invited or they weren't.

I'm happy for Pakistan, though.

Just some invites so far Shivfan!

Got two questions to ask on this subject, one obvious but seems to be unaddressed so far and the other flippant and amuszing....!

1) Aren't WI going to have players already contracted to IPL next year? It's the same situation for all the test nations, whoever come will have a deminished squad.

2) Can we be sure Pakistan will finish each game this time?!
