England stars all clear for IPL

Twenty20 England
comment on the article

Despite the riches on offer from the Stanford series, the England and Wales Cricket Board no longer has the will to fight the players as their agents scout around for Indian Premier League deals.

It now seems certain that any of the very top England one-day players who want a slice of the IPL pie next April will get their wish.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cri...

Kevin Pietersen, despite his commitments as England captain, is one who is definitely keen to try it out, while Essex pair Ravi Bopara and Graham Napier will also hope for a favourable result come auction day in February.

The Professional Cricketers’ Association has been – and will continue to be - a major player in easing possible tensions between the players, the ECB and their counties.

But in truth, with the rest of the cricket world so in love with the Indian board’s “official” Twenty20 league – I still have a soft spot for the much-maligned ICL, by the way – the ECB had little room for manoeuvre. And Peter Moores the coach has even said he is happy for them to go.

So, with the possible Stanford money looming, their own ECB deals and IPL cash – plus whatever other endorsements might come their way – England’s players are set for untold-of riches.

No wonder Pietersen was so keen to stress that he didn’t want anyone “carrying on like a clown” in Antigua next week.

Anyway 20/20 is a joke IPL or not. Test cricket is the real thing

I dont understand why people are cribbing so much. If the situation would have been reverse, say ECB had a 20/20 premiership league and BCCI stopped players from particiapting. The same english media would be shouting murder......BBCI is not letting people make their own choice. Evern since IPL has started, ECB has tried its best to put a spanner in the works. Strange how the same people are complaining today would be happy if Indian or other players wanted to participate in CC.

What really annoys me about all this is the fact that Twenty20 is such an obvious Flash-in-the-Pan competition. How can it ever, possibly, even with all the money involved hope to shift Test cricket as the top lavel of Cricket?! Would the whole world get a grip please?!! The fact that Sri Lanka look certain to cancel their tour next year just sums it up for me. What will a Sri Lankan cricketer tell his kids in a few years time? "Let me tell you about the tour to England in '09" or "I played pointless cricket in the IPL instead of representing my country like a proper cricketer"??

You can't blame the players or the sport if you feel against cricket at the moment, at least it's not as bad as football!

But, one thing that is fundamentally WRONG is one match for $20 million, especially in this current global climate.

Pietersen may think he has covered the issue with his recent statements, but they just ring as hollow noise in my ear, further proven by his desperate want to be part of the IPL.

Looks like cricket is heading the same way as football. The players, the authorities and the sponsors are all happy.

Shame about the fans!

smiley Funny fools these ECB folks. So eventually they had to bow to ICC. What ruckus the ECB created last year trying to lambast IPL. Idiots.

ICL is better than IPL.

Yes, the ECB has bowed to the ICC and is imitating the obscene amounts of money offered in the IPL in their player auctions.

Okay, if india's so appalling to play in, how about this theory?

Every year, alternate the country in which the tournament is played in? Sort out a list of countries who would be able to host it, then go through them one year at a time- a better all round game, more revenue for cricket, and the players can play in their home nation once in a while, rather than effing off for a month or so.

Who gives a toss about 20 20, all it is simply is a money making process, aside from the domestic leagues no one realy cares about this sham, we all know what it is there to do

I will tell u what the Siri Lankan,Pakistani,Bangladeshi and the West Indian players will tell their children, nothing because they will be living in better, cleaner and posher accomodations only because of IPL and ICL,financialy they will be secure, that is why they will not their children nothing.Test cricket is good I love it but at the same time it is played by very few players who get paid good money but what about the rest of the lot.IPL and ICL have given a very good life to lot of young Indian players and a chance to play along side players like Warn,McGrath,Brtt Lee and Smith.Test cricket would have never given the this oppertunity.
