Balco coach gest house arrest

comment on the article

The coach who was the original whistel-blower in the Balco doping scandal, Trevor Graham, has avoided jail. He gets one year of house arrest for his involvement.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/ath...

The scandal has affected athletics, baseball and American
football, leading to prison time for Balco founder Victor Conte
and others, including Olympic sprinter Marion Jones.

But has Graham - who lied about his relationship with Angel Heredia (Heredia said he sold performance-enhancing drugs to Graham) - been fairly trated?

What is your overall opinion about the outcome of the Balco investigation?

Ben JOhnson migrated from jamaica to Canada as a child, and when he broke the world record, he was Canadian. Then, when he won the gold at Seoul, he was Canadian.

But the moment he failed his drug test, he became Jamaican-born!

"No dude I dont see any Jamaicans apologising for what Graham did."

Because they all say he's not Jamaican anymore. Trevor Graham won an Olympic medal you know, running for Jamaica.

You have it totally wrong, no one from Jamaica has disowned Graham, he is and will always be a Jamaican but its just disheartening to see people being branded Jamaican born the moment they do something wrong after migrating for years.
By the way it's interesting when you say he won an Olympic medal for Jamaica I wonder which event he participated in and which Olympics he took part in.
Your argument is a load of bull Graham ran for Jamaica but he never won an Olympic medal for the country the furthest he went was the CARIFTA level.

I think this is all bull! We have a world swimming in all types of drugs. Multi national pharmaceutical companies with links to politicians and govts--the establishment-- make huge profits from drugs that are heavily marketed to hospitals, doctors and health professionals. A lot of these have horrendous side effects Yet they are still pushed as the only option. The natural alternatives which cannot be patented and profited from constantly derided & demonized by the pharmaceutical industry and their lackeys in the popular press.
This is a far greater cause for concern than a few hundred young athletes taking so called performance enhancing drugs for a relatively short period of their lives.
They are demonized as drug cheats, jailed, their lives blighted.
A few young people involved in running, jumping, throwing, etc, use pharmaceutical drugs as training & performance aids. Big deal! The harm they do if any, is to themselves. What is that compared to the harm done by greedy Big Pharma, peddling their poison and profiting from the misery of millions worldwide?
A sense of perspective is called for here people.

I think it's worth pointing out that this punishment has nothing to do with the doping - he got it for lying to Federal agents during the hearings, just the same as Marion Jones did.

Graham wasn't a whistle blower at all.
He didn't know about the FBI investigation of BALCO.
He simply wanted a test developed for THG because, by that stage, his athletes had stopped taking it.

Tough break for TG eh?

If somehow you've become anti-Jamaica, you're missing the point!!

Just as odd is this pro Graham sentiment that feeds the narcissism, denial and enabling that is core of corruption in the sport.

Hopefully we all learnt and teach our children there are consequences, even if forgiveness ensues. A hard one that some don't get experiential knowledge of until well ...

I don't care about the political infighting, I just want the sport cleaned up.

Why cheat? Just find something else you're good at.
