Wayne Rooney Is Simply On Fire!

Premier League Manchester United
comment on the article

When Wayne Rooney plays like he is there is no faulting him. Pure class performance. The game itself wasn't entirely exciting but it brought us the points we need to get through this league, all we need now is one more win.

Ronaldo again looked anonymous, he is not the 'number one' at United no more and he knows it!

Johnny Evans was superb at the back and looks a great successor to Ferdinand.

So overall a pretty eventful night, nearly forgot about Berbatov's fantastically offside goals!

hello coyle87

I'm new to the site so that's why my post is running behind your post as I'm on premod.

I knew I shouldn't have got my wife to explain the offside rule to me! She's much better at car maintenance.

I stuck to the FA offside law because I assumed it was universal. I've gone onto the fifa website and surprise, surprise ... it's the same!

The 2 player rule is just the basis of the offside law but it's not the detail. Who would have thought that Holland's goal against Italy would have stood when Panucci fell off the pitch?

fifa law11 - section: gaining an advantage

slide 23 shows something similar but the offside player was still offside when the ball reached him - so he is still offside. Berbatov was onside at the point when Boruc gifted him.

slide 25 shows a deflection to a player who is in an offside position so it is still offside. Deflections don't count when it comes to putting an opposing player onside.

slide 26 shows a player in an offside position not moving. Another player (same team) brings the ball forward and past him and now the offside player is onside and he has not even moved.

I think what fifa is trying to say is that the offside/onside status of a player can change and what matters is status of the player when he receives the ball.

Also I think that the term 'phase of play' is just a commentator's soundbite. The ball is either in play or not in play.winkeye

When the Panucci goal happened we got a full explanation why it was not offside. Shouldn't we get one now?

This should not develop (a bit late now) into a Celtic/Man Utd row. I live about 30 miles from Celtic Park and my son was at the match on Tuesday night at OT. Funnily enough match supporters don't know that there is a controversy going on.

Re: **PHOENIXFROMTHE FLAMES** (U9495692)

the point is he (Ronaldo) encourages young kids to think its ok to do this as he is their role model, and this is the major problem.

===========================

To be fair though Ronaldo never asked nor aspired to be a role model. Parents should be responsible for raising and teaching their kids, not footballers. Blaming a kid’s bad behaviour on a footballer is a MASSIVE copout and oversimplification. BTW when I was younger, Eric Cantona was my role model but strangely I’ve never felt the urge to pop my collar, recite poetry or kung fu attack somebody in a crowd, go figure!

Re: shimmyshimmy (U2695085)

>>MaloneGod is spot on, rick1016 may have just listed all the dodgy decisions Utd have had in the last 4 months

No I listed just a few of them that I could remember off the top of my head. There are many more.

>>but every team gets dodgy decisions against them as referees err on the side of caution to avoid controversy. What sets Utd apart is the number of dodgy decisions they get in their favour.

No what sets Utd apart is the intense amount of scrutiny they come under compared to other teams – let this forum and the countless others full of anti-Utd comments hold testament to that. Put any other team under the same microscope that Man Utd operate under and I’m sure you’ll find plenty of dodgy referring decisions there as well. The point I was trying to make is that people only ever talk about the dodgy decisions Utd get in their favour – never about all the dodgy decisions that go against them. That’s why I listed just a few of them, to counter balance the argument. But of course, people aren’t interested in reading about that because it doesn’t suit their anti-Utd ideology.

Everton are crap, so you won't need the ref to get things started or will you?

it all comes down to being active or inactive and when the free kick was taken berbatov was in my view active so he was offside and i am a qualified referee but this is only my interpretation

Au contrer - or however the French say it haha,- mon amigo (as the Spanish might. Phase of play is a legitimate thing which referees learn about :o £35 and ypu copuld learn all about it, and you could be a qualified ref... mind you dont know if id like you to ref at one of my games... oh, and my car needs a service, your wife available??? winkeye

Futility is not the correct word to use.

It's out of context.

I would suggest that Celtic will win 2 - 1 at Parkhead.
